除了 Barry Manilow外﹐另一位演唱過 Disco歌曲的歌星﹐便是天后級的 Diana Ross。這位早於60年代已出道的 Supreme 成員﹐多年來演唱的歌曲都順應不同年代的音樂潮流而轉變。

早在1976年﹐Diana Ross 已發行了首張 Disco 單曲 Love Hangover﹐而且取得 Billboard 流行榜兩星期冠軍。不過氣勢最凌厲還是由 Chic 的成員Bernard Edwards及 Nile Rodgers 製作的 Upside Down。此曲在美國得到4星期Billboard流行榜及R&B榜冠軍﹐而英國則取得第2位。Upside Down 取自“Diana”(1980/Motown) 專輯﹐這也是 Diana Ross與 Motown結束達20年合作關係的最後專輯﹐之後她便以高達2000萬美元轉投 RCA的懷抱﹐而英國則交由 EMI發行。

筆者較早認識 Diana Ross的歌曲在於“Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)”(1975/Motown)﹐其後因為一套港劇用了 It’s My Turn (1980/Motown) 作為配樂﹐而對她的歌曲增加認識。至於 Upside Down是否早在流行的時候認識﹐還是事後的事情﹐我已沒存下多少記憶了﹐不過當她簽約 RCA時﹐倒是追隨她的歌曲好一陣子﹐後來還買了她的 Diana Ross Forever (1993/Motown) Boxset ﹐作為對她從 Supreme到後來單飛發展的歌曲作全面認識的途徑。
