Tom Tom Club - Wordy Rappinghood / Genius Of Love
筆者雖然喜歡舞曲﹐但是甚少到 Disco 玩樂﹐只屬單純的欣賞而已﹐但是我也很少聽電台節目﹐於是接觸舞曲就需要從別些途徑。
1982年港產電影“提防小手” 除了使用了 Earth Wind & Fire的 Let’s Groove外﹐還有名不傳的 Tom Tom Club的 Wordy Rappinghood。其實看電影時﹐我沒發覺的﹐是友人告訴我﹐我才找這首歌來聽。歌曲的開場使用了打字機的聲音﹐然而即轉到電子音樂中﹐這個 Intro至今仍經常被樂迷談及。Wordy Rappinghood在美國由 Sire出版﹐但是卻沒有打上 Billboard流行榜﹐不過在英國卻取得第7位﹐至於香港﹐則由 Wea 出版。

Tom Tom Club 算是 Talking Head的分支﹐因為由他們的成員 Tina Weymouth及 Chris Frantz所組成﹐二人是夫妻檔﹐而 Tom Tom Club 加上一大班樂師製作這張即興的 TomTom Club (1981/Sire) 專輯﹐其中有 Tina的姊妹團﹐還有來自 King Crimson的結他手 Adrian Belew。
那時還是從唱片錄在卡帶的 Analog年代﹐因為這張唱片的歌曲都是相連著的﹐故此在剪輯Wordy Rappinghood 時﹐只得把 Recording Level突然調低﹐但是太慢就會留有第2 Track的一兩個音﹐但是太快調低﹐又突然中斷﹐過於突兀﹐故此我把第二 Track的 Genius Of Love錄了少許 Intro ﹐想不到後來買了CD版時﹐卻因這短短的引子﹐而吸引我接觸 Genius Of Love。此曲在美國登上 Billboard流行榜第31位 (1981/Sire)﹐ 而英國方面得到第31位 (1979/Island)。

Tom Tom Club首張同名專輯在英國還有第3張單曲 Under The Boardwalk (1982/Island) 得到第22位﹐此曲翻唱自 Drifters的歌曲 (1964/Atlantic)﹐他們直到2002年還不定時有發行新專輯﹐可惜他們的歌曲在流行榜中並不成功。90年代中期﹐在香港發現到 Tom Tom Club的美國版 CD﹐雖然當時只喜歡Wordy Rappinghood而已﹐但是因為收錄了它及Genius Of Love 的 Remix / Long Version﹐所以還是為此而破財﹐然而感到它們跟 LP版分別不大。

Tom Tom Club 的 Wordy Rappinghood 跟 Genius Of Love 都是當年 Disco 的大熱歌曲，但小弟就沒多大興趣，因當時流行的都是 HI NRG 或 EURO DISCO，BASS 部份都較重，於是就有點覺得 Tom Tom Club 的不夠「勁」了。
那時我倒經常到 Disco 呢，我對跳舞音樂的認識，一部份就是來自 Disco，另外我也會到旺角荷李活商場找相熟的唱片店給我介紹，也會看「年青人周報」的 Spark Music Column，那位主筆 DJ Spark 經常推介 Disco Music 的。後來 DJ Spark 在聯合商場開了間唱片店，我就經常去找他錄跳舞音樂盒帶了，有不少更是他專為我而錄的 Non-stop remix 呢。可惜後來他的店關門，現有就再沒有他消息了！

對啊﹐論勁度﹐Tom Tom Club 是猶有不及的﹐不過他們的音樂很趣怪啊﹐所以這兩首歌曲﹐我也很喜歡。
對於Disco 音樂﹐我的認識還是源自唱片租賃公司租來的唱片/12”Single﹐也看年青人週報﹐參考他們的各大Disco 榜。我很挑音色﹐所以從來不假手於別人錄歌的﹐只喜歡原裝12”的 remix﹐本地的我也聽過﹐可是大多音樂為了強勁而錄到近去“拆”聲﹐所以我興趣不大。

我對音色要求不高，因為我實在聽不出美國版、英國版、日本版等的分別啊，不過我當然還是分得出盒帶與12" single 的高低的，可是如果我所喜歡的都買唱片，我又沒有這樣大的財力呢，所以沒辦法，只能找店鋪替我錄了。而我耳朵雖不靈光，我倒也聽得出本地的跳舞音樂很多時會有“拆”聲的情況，所以除非沒有其他途徑，否則我也不會買這種拆聲音樂的。
Hollywood East 和 Canton 都有去過，還有 Hot Wall、Apollo 18、Another Wold、Zodiac等等，多得我都忘記了，當中覺得 Canton 最大最豪，而 Hollywood East 和 Another World 的音樂就最「0岩聽」。

其實當年我也有一兩次錄歌經驗﹐例如當年的Disconet及Hot Tracks特別混音LP ﹐便是售價驚人﹐不單不容易買到﹐連租也沒機會﹐只是偶然有一兩間店肯代錄﹐而且收費甚高﹐至今我仍有幾首由經他人之手來的錄音。不過當時我有監工﹐就是看著他們錄﹐而且發現錄音的Level 調得太高時﹐我們要求把它調低到我要求的水平上﹐想起來﹐我這個顧客也頗麻煩的﹐哈哈哈~

除了你所提的Disconet及Hot Tracks外，我記得還有Razormaid、Ultimix、This Is Only A Test等等的特別混音版，這些都是Dance music愛好者的搜羅對象，但正如你所說，這些唱片都售價高昴，所以我一般都只是找唱片舖代錄，但是否錄歌時也特別貴我倒忘了。不過錄時要在場監工我一定沒試過，你對音色的要求的確嚴謹呢！
同一首歌聽不同版本來比較我沒試過，不過小弟耳朵確實「麻麻地」，我懷疑自己即使跟你一般的去比較，我也會聽不出來呢，哈哈！
其實愛「浦」Disco的大多是「潮青」，所以把自己打扮得漂漂亮亮的去Disco玩也算是正常不過的，不過這現象在今天的深圳卻有很大變化，我曾跟客人去過一些深圳的Disco，「潮青」當然還有，但卻有不少像我般的老野，打扮「薯嘜」，在舞池中像打功夫般亂搖亂動。老實說，如果不是客人要求，小弟這一把年紀真的不會再去這種地方的，因為擠在一堆小孩當中，真有自覺是「人瑞」的感覺呢！

最近因工作關係﹐看到許多80年代梅艷芳﹑張國榮的MV﹐當時可是潮到爆﹐現在卻是娘到暈呢。哈哈哈~
