相隔4年﹐ Madonna終於在1998年發了全新專輯 Ray Of Light﹐當時筆者對她音樂﹐不算是喜愛﹐感覺也像若即若離的關係﹐畢竟早年曾瘋狂浸淫在她的音樂中。

記憶中在 Channel V看到首張單曲 Frozen的 MV ﹐非常喜歡﹐碰巧也在唱片店找到它的美國版 Maxi Single ﹐於是便很快買下來了。其實後來 Sarah Brightman的 Harem (2003/Angel) 專輯曲風跟它頗像﹐只是 Sarah把自己扮成中東美女﹐但 Madonna就像陰沉世界裡的幽靈。Maxi Single中﹐自己最喜歡的是Extended Club Mix。

經過 Frozen之後﹐筆者其實頗期待 Madonna的新專輯﹐可是當第2首單曲 Plug上台之後﹐在電視台看到 Ray Of Light的MV﹐感到眼花瞭亂﹐頭也痛起來﹐這種首次接觸便留下不良的印象﹐頓時興趣大減。說也奇怪﹐Ray Of Light一直存著厭惡的感覺在筆者記憶中﹐揮之不去。另一次深刻印象來去年 (2006年) 香港二人女子組合 At Seventeen的一場音樂會﹐她們租借了 Madonna 在日本演唱會用的一個 Machine﹐翻唱了這首 Ray Of Lights﹐場內的音量分貝 (dB) 立時成為了超音波﹐令人目瞪口呆。

Ray Of Light專輯由Madonna及William Orbit監製﹐當中也加入了舊拍檔 Patrick Leonard及 Marius De Vries﹐此專輯確實為 Madonna的音樂事業挽回頹勢﹐在美國買了 430萬張﹐世界性售量高達1500萬張。在1999年的 Grammy Awards 更得到3個獎項﹐其中包括 Best Pop Album及Best Dance Recording ﹐不過筆者認識該張專輯﹐就僅是 Frozen及 Ray Of Light而已﹐至於 Nothing Really Matters﹐就只留下那 Geisha形像﹐有人說這是為了討好日本市場呢。
