唱片公司從 Like A Virgin專輯中抽取了同名歌曲作為首張單曲後﹐接下來的第二張單曲便是 Material Girl。

這首歌曲不及 Like A Virgin成功﹐在流行榜上美國得到兩星期第2 ﹐而英國得到第3 ﹐不過它仍然給 Madonna帶來名與利﹐並且讓她被封為 Material Girl﹐然而她曾表示為此綽號非常後悔灌錄此曲﹐不過筆者記得當年報刊便曾報導﹐她喜歡 Marilyn Monroe﹐甚至擁有一個衣服間﹐讓她在裡面打扮得像Monroe一樣﹐故 Material Girl的 MV是抄襲自Marilyn Monroe的電影片斷﹐故她討厭此曲卻實在不合情理。

Material Girl ﹕因為同公司的關係﹐這曲很快便被香港華納的歌星葉蒨文主唱了粵語版200度﹐收錄於“長夜My Love Good Night”(1985/Wea) 中﹐其後她也有一個 Remix 版本﹐收錄於“12" Fever Mix” (1985/Wea) 合輯中。

同期美國很流行一些 DJ Remix 讓 Disco 播放﹐但不會在市場上作廣泛發售﹐著名的便有 Disconet 及 Hot Tracks 兩間公司﹐Disconet也為 Material Girl製作了一個Extended Edit﹐至今重聽似乎沒甚麼特別﹐但愛好 Remix的筆者當年卻是為了那小段不同的 Intro而要擁有。這兩間唱片公司的唱片很昂貴﹐因為都是特別混音﹐當時一張外國唱片在香港約售35元﹐一張12” Single 約 30元﹐而一張Disconet 或Hot Tracks便要200到300元。這些唱片大多在唱片租賃店找到﹐但因為太罕有﹐店主不會租借出來﹐只能付較貴的價錢﹐讓他們給你錄在卡帶中。
