許多人認識鳴茜的歌曲﹐都會是粵語經典“公子多情”﹐不過擅唱西洋歌曲的她﹐演繹起英語歌曲起來﹐似乎更有味道。60年代中期﹐她簽約鑽石唱片時﹐便曾灌錄下 Rowena Sings For Sweethearts 專輯。

鳴茜﹐洋名為Rowena ﹐ 13歲輟學而夢想以唱歌為職業﹐等了幾年才給一位舞廳經理賞識﹐與她簽約作茶舞時段演唱。1962年被樂隊領班 Philip Mann發掘﹐經他悉心指導﹐兩年後與夜總會簽約登台獻唱﹐隨後受到極大歡迎就定期於電台及電視台亮相。要找關於她的資料也頗困難﹐以下便是轉載自Rowena Sings For Sweethearts的封底介紹﹕

Diamond Records takes pride and pleasure in welcoming the charming Rowena, one of the Hongkong’s favourite vocalists, to its family of distinguished artists.

In her childhood years Rowena dreamt of being a singing star but never thought that her dream would one day come true. The day has arrived only after years of disappointments and setbacks but she maintained great determination to succeed.

After leaving school at the age of 13 Rowena decided that she would do the one thing she loved most – to sing. But it was not until years later that she was “discovered” by a restaurant manager who had heard her singing over the radio. Rowena was immediately given a contract to sing at tea-dances.

In 1962 fate brought her to Philip Mann, a popular bandleader. Under Mann’s capable guidance Rowena received remarkable talent and two years later was offered a contract with one of the Hongkong’s top nightclubs. Soon after Rowena appeared regularly on Television and radio.

Though she enjoys good swing numbers Rowena’s voice is best described as “sweet, clear and soft” – ideally suited for slow romantic ballads. Thus it is only apt that in this, her debut album for Diamond, Rowena should “SING FOR SWEETHEARTS”.

Aided by fine arrangements of Joseph Koo and backed by some of the top musician available, Rowena successfully performs a repertoire ranging from the haunting “MOMENT TO MOMENT”, the academy-award winning “SHADOWS OF YOUR SMILE”, “THE SWEETHEART TREE”, to the now standard “MORE”. In this presentation she also receives the lovely oldies “IF YOU WERE THE ONLY BOY”

Here then are eleven top hits of the day and an old ballad unknown to the majority of today’s younger set – each song is given a new life in the warm and tender styling of Rowena!
