大約1995年﹐一次筆者閒逛KPS時﹐剛巧電視機傳來一首很搶耳的歌曲﹐當時滿以為是 David Bowie 的新曲﹐後來看清楚原來是另有其人。留意著MV直到播完為止﹐才在僅有的幾秒畫面中發現歌曲名叫 A Girl Like You ﹐但歌手名字就不夠時間看了。

後來找了很久才知道那歌手名叫 Edwyn Collins ﹐而香港方面由滾石代理。只因一直以來不愛香港版 CD 的筆者﹐而且又找不到此曲的Single﹐終於買來一張加拿大版的 Gorgeous George 專輯。沒想到此曲非常流行﹐而唱片店也找來歌手的舊專輯來發賣。

原來 Edwyn Collins 來自80年代一隊名為 Orange Juice的樂團﹐其實他們的成續並不突出﹐但是因為 A Girl Like You大紅﹐某些樂評就大加讚賞他早期 Orange Juice的歌曲如何精采。其實Gorgeous George 是一張要比較細心欣賞的專輯﹐因為 A Girl Like You 比較商業化﹐跟專輯其他歌曲﹐在風格上並不統一﹐但其他歌曲便需要點時間來消化。

A Girl Like You 打進美國流行榜第32位﹐而英國方面得到第4位﹐並且被選為1995年電影 Empire Records 的插曲﹐所以當滾石大力宣傳Gorgeous George專輯的同時﹐寶麗金也以 A Girl Like You宣傳著Empire Records的原聲帶專輯。感覺Edwyn 的嗓子很像 David Bowie﹐自己就曾想像由他演繹﹐又會變成甚麼樣子呢﹖
