記得80年代﹐讀過一篇關於英美樂壇的分析﹐它說英國樂壇比較懷舊﹐所以一些舊曲很容易又會再次打入流行榜﹐但在美國這種情況出現不多。不過近年這股懷舊風﹐正一直在美國瀰漫著。

2002年事業一直停滯不前的 Rod Stewart﹐離開舊東家 Warner 簽約J Records﹐並且改變風格﹐出版了It Had to Be You... The Great American Songbook 專輯﹐想不到帶來事業的第二春﹐廣東話說法是“咸魚翻生” ﹐此後他一直沿用 Songbook 主題﹐出版了四張同類型的專輯。而 Bette Midler 也自2000年開始﹐出版了兩張以歌手為主題的 Rosemary Cloonley 及 Peggy Lee 的 Songbook 專輯﹐而再早一點便有1998年 Barry Manilow 的 Manilow Sings Sinatra 專輯。

2005年Carly Simon 也來分一杯羹﹐出版了 Moonlight Serenade 專輯﹐不過要是說 Carly 是跟風﹐這種說法又不可以成立﹐早在1981已經出版過同類型的Torch 專輯﹐其後還有 My Romance (1990) 及 Film Noir (1997) 。這次找來老拍檔 Richard Perry 擔任監製﹐兩人早在70年代已經締造過3星期冠軍歌曲 You’re So Vain (1972) 及 3星期的亞軍歌曲 Nobody Does It Better (1977)﹐ 而 Richard 也是近年 Rod Stewart 的 Songbook 專輯的操刀人。Carly 演繹的 11 首經典金曲﹐別有一番味道﹐筆者更想不到她會演繹 Glenn Miller 的 Moonlight Serenade﹐其餘還有 Cole Porter 的 I’ve Got You Under My Skin﹑In The Still Of The Night﹑Gershwin 的作品 How Long Has This Been Going On 等。本張專輯沒有很刻意懶洋洋的 Jazz 味道﹐Carly Simon 的嗓音散發著都市晚間的魅力。

Dual Disc 的DVD Side 收錄了24分鐘的Making Of﹐想不到從 Interview 中﹐Carly 及 Richard 兩位老人家﹐說話及動作都比人家慢一倍﹐但是Moonlight Serenade 專輯卻又沒有這種老態疲現的感覺﹐Carly演繹起老歌來﹐嗓音發揮著醉人的魔力。除了 Moonlight Serenade外﹐筆者也特別推介 Alone Together。
