Dixie Chicks - Taking The Long Way

2002年發行Home 專輯﹐明顯因為批評 Bush 總統的言論﹐銷量與演唱會都受到影響﹐翌年卻把 Top Of The World Tour 演唱會錄音結集為 Live CD 及 DVD。

Top Of The World Live 在美國雖然還是百萬銷量﹐可是跟首兩張專輯有千萬鎮銷量﹐成績真是相距甚遠。事隔3年﹐Dixie Chicks 再接再厲推出相隔4年的 Studio Album “Taking The Long Way”。“Home”有意帶領樂迷回到她們的 Bluegrass 及民謠根源﹐然而 Taking The Long Way 卻有點回到 Wide Open Spaces 及 Fly 專輯的風格﹐只是音樂上﹐3隻小雞來得成熟得多了﹐歌曲全數由成員們合寫或跟人合作﹐著重個人感受﹐沒有太涉及政治看法﹐而從封面來看﹐Dixie Chicks 也變成了 Sex In The City 的熟女。

相隔4年﹐Dixie Chicks 的日子還是不太好過﹐經常受到各大機構杯葛﹐從新專輯中推出首張單曲 I Hope﹐此曲首次於 2005年9月在Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast 曝光﹐可是卻沒有收錄在該DVD中﹐Dixie Chicks 改為 Digital Download 單曲﹐為 Habitat For Humanity 及 American Federation of Musicians 籌款﹐卻沒有交給 Red Cross﹐因為他們早前曾無理地抵制她們。然後於2006年3月真正推出實物的單曲 “Not Ready to Make Nice"﹐好為新專輯熱身﹐不過她們的歌曲仍為一些電台杯葛﹐在宣傳不足之外﹐也導致多場演唱會取消 。

雖然專輯只得200萬張銷量﹐然而還是登上了 Billboard 的鄉謠專輯榜及 Hot 100 的冠軍位置﹐算是一點安慰﹐而且這張專輯也為 Dixie Chick 添上5個 Grammy Award﹐包括 Album of the Year 及 Best Country Album﹐另外也以“Not Ready to Make Nice”得到 Song of the Year﹑Record of the Year 及 Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal。可見這張專輯水準甚麼﹐若不是受到杯葛﹐成績不僅於此。


I Hope﹕這是為 Habitat For Humanity 及 American Federation of Musicians 籌款而寫的單曲﹐取得Billboard 鄉謠榜第54位。

因為批評而受到杯葛，奇怪呢。
畢竟那個布什總統也不見得得人心。

Billboard 及 Hot 100 畢竟有雪亮的心。
路遙知馬力，再過幾年，人家還是會記得三只小雞。

Dear 飛羊﹐

個人認為既然已宣戰了﹐那麼作為公民﹐就應該支持國家的決定﹐若真是不期望戰爭﹐那也只有保持沉默吧。不過有點奇怪﹐在美國﹐言論﹑種族不是講求自由嗎﹖卻要多年來一直受到封殺﹐令人摸不著頭腦。較事的背後﹐會否不是我們想象那麼簡單呢﹖

Dear Muzikland,

You have to understand that country music audiences are more conservative, and therefore, more likely to be supported by Republican Party supporters. It's actually somewhat surprising that the Dixie Chicks spoke out against Bush and the war. However, because of their success, they can afford to take the risk. In the years since the Dixie Chicks took their position against Bush, it doesn't seem that they have backed off. However, I think even country music audiences are tired of the war. Bon Jovi, one of the biggest bands in the world and also not supportive of the war, had a #1 album last year on the Billboard country chart with their first country album.

謝謝你的解釋﹐我想因為你是在地人﹐會比遠洋的我更清楚啦。
雖然她們知名﹐然而在演唱會及CD銷售量中﹐也付出了沉重的代價﹐對她們也太勞心勞力啦。不過我一直對音樂﹐都不喜歡連上政治的﹐一旦連上了﹐像以前大陸那一種清算﹐那就會太恐佈了。
