The Promise

*beeeep beeeep beeeep*

The traffic screamed its indignance in unison, startling the two girls who both took a step back. But then, the dark haired girl reached out for the other's hand and they moved together towards the other end of the crossing.

"Um... sorry... I don't know what came over me... I ... just hugged... hugged..."

Himeko was the first to break the silence but could only stutter out an incomplete sentence.

"Nevermind... are you alright? Do you feel unwell?"

The dark haired girl was now asking after her with some concern, perhaps thinking that Himeko had some of anemia and was suddenly overcome by dizzyness and so fell onto her?

"No... No... I'm fine... but... I must have startled you? I'm really really sorry..."

At least, that was what Himeko was saying, but all shecould think of was 'Her voice is so melodic! And she's so beautiful... and gosh... especially her eyes...'

Suddenly realising she was still staring at the other girl, Himeko hurridly lowered her head in embarrassment.

"Hey, please stop apologising. Honestly it really doesn't matter - so long as you're alright... um... I'm afraid I have to go now as I have other things planned."

The dark-haired girl was smiling as she gently shook Himeko's held hand, as if she were trying to get her attention.

"Oh! Um... yes, sorry. I've delayed you.. I mean..."

Himeko didn't even get the chance to apologise before the dark-haired girl placed a gentle finger on to her lips.

"Take care... Bye!"

The girl winked at Himeko, bid her farewell then released her hand and turned towards the central TV station.

"Good- goodbye.."

She probably couldn't even hear the muffled goodbye? Himeko felt a wave of pain in her heart when the girl released her hand.. and stood rooted to the spot as she watched the girl leave.
