"Non-violence" III
After talking about Rosa Parks, good manner on the English bus, here comes another issue.
A week ago, my university mailbox was suddenly filled with newsletters mailed by "Chinese Student Association". At first I did not care about them. Sometimes I only saw them for fun, since the wordage they use was just like what only appeared 15 years ago in Taiwan. Conservative, and actually campy.
Yesterday it was just like a bomb. In the newsletter, the head of the association fanfares about Chairman Hu's coming to the UK. And they are going to gather a group of students to welcome his visit. If the number reaches 50, there will be free transportation to carry them to London to join the welcoming parade.
Actually, I don't know how they got my email address. If it's just for their convenience to gather those with chinese last names, that's fine. If it's based on the co-centric theory about "big family", it doesn't bother, either. "Just don't punish yourself with other's ignorance." my psychiatric supervisor in Taiwan told me so. But this time I was irritated.

It's violent, without any doubt, to impose the ideology which is not convincing at all on you. It's more nasty than those junk mails. Well, I could have acted "non-violently", like those black people who chose not to fight back in the "sit-in" campaign in Alabama and Georgia in the 60's. However the digital network nowadays can be far more poisonous and epidemic. So I wrote back immediately to thank them for the information, but also told them to delete me from their mailing list.
This makes me relate to an internet sensation occurring a while ago. Although Taiwanese legislators also made statement in freeing Taiwan from China on the google map, at least it were not those legislators but bloggers who started the movement. On the contrary, it was the "anti-seperation law", which needed to be legislated at their national assembly, none of whose members had been living on this island for a single day.
Well, Chairman Hu, who raises the slogan of peace and meanwhile threatens his prey, my homeland, is visiting the UK. And if you are interested in this, there are more "psychic" facts to explore....
At the end of the letter, a passage stated, in brief, that the activity represents the "figure of Chinese students in Essex", "figure of Chinese", "loyalty and passion toward China." Funny huh? :)

It is a very interesting observation. I haven't seen this phenamenon here. It might be becasue I rarely attended those activities. Or it rarely happended here, because Pittsburgh is a middle city rather than a big city, like New York or London.

Jean,
我打了電話了,沒接。不過這裡似乎不好處理私事。我會把留言刪掉。再來想辦法好嗎?希望大家一切平安。
