Smile (For tribute to the Late "King Of The Pops" Michael Jackson)

2009年7月8日的零晨時分，筆者一如全球數以億計樂迷般，坐在電視螢幕前，觀看於洛杉磯Staples Center擧行的一代流行曲之王Michael Jackson追悼大會現場直播。在眾多著名樂手為紀念MJ而獻上他生平曾演譯的歌曲過程當中，筆者最為難忘的，就是由他兄長Jermaine Jackson演唱深情的一曲"Smile"......

這首MJ生前很喜愛的"Smile"，是已故喜劇之王差利卓別靈(Charlie Chaplin)於1936年製作的影片《摩登時代Modern Times》中的插曲作品，曾演譯該曲的著名或巨星級歌手或組合，可謂多不勝數，除MJ外，還包括了Nat King Cole、Neil Sedaka、Eric Clapton、Sammy Davis Jr. 、Johnny Mathis、Dean Martin、Tony Bennett、Rod Stewart、Jerry Butler、Roger Whittaker、Elvis Costello、Michael Bublé、Ennio Morricone、Mantovani、Bert Kaempfert、Judy Garland、Timi Yuro、Skeeter Davis、Petula Clark、Peggy Lee、Rickie Lee Jones、Betty Everett、Barbra Streisand、Diana Ross、Dionne Warwick、Sandie Shaw、Nana Mouskouri、Anne Murray、Maureen McGovern、Ferrante & Teicher 、Simply Red、The Lettermen....等。至於在華人樂壇層面上，多年來筆者只能找到僅有的一首演譯，同時說來也有點摸不着頭腦，那竟然是由一支我們可能預料不到的組合...七十年代的Jade玉石樂隊來擔綱，於1977年以輕快形式灌唱及收錄於他們最後一張的同名LP內。
