Lyn Paul - "Love" & Marty Kristian - "Crying In The Rain"

1973至1975年期間，Lyn Paul及Marty Kristian這兩位前〈The New Seekers〉樂隊成員，皆曾以個人名字獨唱方式，為其所屬寶麗多(Polydor)唱片公司灌唱了一些歌曲。其中的兩首都曾極被當年的港澳流行樂迷所喜愛，並也是筆者多年來的自列金曲。但可惜的是擁有版權的環球(UMG)或其前身的寶麗金(Polygram)唱片公司，卻從未把這兩首歌名為"Love"及"Crying In The Rain"作CD形式出版。

〈The New Seekers〉樂隊於1974年中宣佈拆夥後，Lyn Paul隨即開展了她的個人歌唱事業，並繼續灌唱於寶麗多旗下，"Love"是1975年2月寶麗多為Lyn Paul出版的第3張7吋唱片Side A歌曲，Side B則是"I Could Get Arrested"。這兩首加上另一首她被某大名牌汽水借用為繼"I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing"之後推出的廣告歌曲"It Oughta Sell A Million"，其後皆被收錄於她的首張個人LP唱片《Give Me Love》內。

"Love" (Reed/Mason)試聽版﹕


"Crying In The Rain"這首出自Howard Greenfield及Carole King的作品歌曲，1961年逕Everly Brothers首次灌唱及廣受歡迎後。1973年中Marty Kristian把它重新編曲及以他低沉的聲調作演譯，他這張"Crying In The Rain"/ "A Woman Grows" 7吋唱片推出後，在當年港澳地區樂壇上的受落程度，一點也不差於Everly Brothers的先前版本，其後也被收錄於一張名為《Peter Paul & Marty》的LP內，而這LP更覆蓋了由其他兩位The New Seekers男成員Peter Oliver及Paul Layton主唱的歌曲。

真係好開心,竟然俾我揾到這個網址,揾到我多年想揾嘅歌,呢两首歌,其實我曾擁有過黑膠碟,不過給我阿媽丟咗,真係嬲到我死！不過今日我再能在這裏聽番這两首歌,我真係好興奮！謝謝！在這裏要補充一句,點解唱片公司唔再將呢两首歌出番CD？

I share much the same feelings on the 60s and 70s. Thanks for remincenting. It is very nice of you to share all this.

I have 2 questions :

1. Could you post "It Oughta Sell A Million" ? I really yearn to listen to this very nice song again.

2. I remember about 1970-73 when Sandra reprsented HK singing Koo Ka Fai's Xiao Haha at the World Song Contest at Japan, the winning song was " You Make Me Feel I Could Fly" by a European contingent. It was fantastic. The winning presentation was subsequently played many times during commercial intermissions by TVB Pearl for sometime. Yan Ni, the HK lady singer, picked to sing the same song a few years later but she never could sing as well as the original European singer.

Would you know this song? and, do you know where we can find it and, if it is downloadable?

1. "It Oughta Sell A Million" trial version has been added above.

2. The mentioned winning song "You Make Me Feel I Could Fly" was played by a female Norwegian artist Ellen Nikolaysen in 1974. I've been able to locate from a Korean website its Youtube version, link below, together with others relating to the pertaining record album cover & information of the World Popular Song Festival (Yamaha Music Festival).

Thanks for your prompt reply. Thanks for your resourcefulness. I never thought that you could dig up "You Made Me Feel I Could Fly" so fast. I have been surfing the web for it for some time in vain, let alone any of my contemporaries who may have any faintest idea about it!

I wish I could download the song but I think Youtube does not have the facilities for downloading. I wonder what other means there might be?

BTW, I have some thoughts on Teresa Carpio et al. I will write there. Thanks again anyway.

Thanks for your work in posting the song.My old friend (secondary school classmate)and me have searched it for years.
I have enquired RTHK old DJs (Eric Ng & Joe Chan) for that song. Eric Ng was so kind to provide me a list of singers, and I kept searching one by one in the CD shops, but new versions of other singers in CD could only be found.
Crying in the rain was really a great song and the best performance by Peter Paul & Marty I have ever heard.
