Trendy Oxford Street

Oxford Street

Trendy London it is.

Portobello Road Market

Roxanne

她和她的男朋友(sorry I forgot his name...

The time is too short for me to take decent tour at each of the sites, but I sensed the history, the people, and the diversity in this city.

London is simply amazing...

Shakespeare's Globe - originally built in 1599 and it was where the opening show of many Shakespeare's palys, such as Hamlet, took place.  The site was burnt down in 1613 but rebuilt in 1997 by an Amercian actor Sam Wanamaker.

(Right) London City Hall - designed by Norman Foster with a height of 45m. This is a GREEN building constructed for enviornment sustainability that its round shape can reduce energy required.

The legendary British Museum - admission by free donation. This world famous museum was opened in 1759 with the collection of tens thousands of historical pieces that the British Empire "collected" from her colonies and other countries, including the scary "Mummy" from Egypt.

King's Cross Train Station - became very famous after the movie "Harry Potter".

(Right - Chinatown in London.)

The Tower Hill subway station after sunset.

Fashionable Oxford Street and UK's no.1 department store - Marks & Spencer (M&S).

Oxford Circus - As one of Europe's largest shopping street, there are over 300 stores and shops along the 2.6km long Oxford Street.

GGDP - Final Week

Premier - My room. It is right beside the classrooms so it only takes me 30sec to walk from my room to the classroom.

The Cyclone.

Syndicated Building - This is where the admin office and most of the classrooms are. Inside there is also a "Hexagon Bar" which serve fresh cool beer every night.

Lakeside Lecture Hall - The largest lecture room in the whole campus, which can fit in 100 people together.dd

The National Gallery which collects over 2,300 art pieces of Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, Holbein, and Cezanne, etc.

The Horse Guards - two Queen's Life Guards riding on their horses.
The Household Cavalry was formed in 1661 under the direct of King Charles II and now consists of the two senior regiments of the British Army: The Life Guards and the Blues and Royals. One of its key role is to protect the Queen on ceremonial occasions in London and across UK.

(Left) The close shot of the Life Guard.  It is actually a difficult job because so many tourists are trying to take photo with the guard and the horse tends to move around... so the Life Guard has to control the horse while maintaining his coolness on the horse~

(Right) The actual armed police guarding the Buckingham Palace.  Looks more lethal and serious than the Life Guard on horse.

The Horse Guards and the Household Cavalry Museum.

Buckingham Palace, the official residences of the Queen. If you see four guards in front of the palace and there is a UK flag on top of the roof, that means the Queen is in the palace at the moment... What a great way of telling the enemies when to attack the place.

St. James Park beside Buckingham Palace. It was once the hunting ground and party venue for King Henry VIII and Queen Victoria I.

Another landmark of London - The Tower Bridge. It was the ONLY bridge on Thames River before 1750.  The bridge can open up for ships to go through and it only takes 1 minute to open the bridge.

Tower Bridge opening up for ships to go through.

St. Paul's Cathedral, built between 1675 to 1708 by Christopher Wren.  This is where Prince Charles and deceased Princess Diana hosted their wedding.

The front side of the St Paul's Cathedral.

Westminster Abbey Church, one of the most holly place of UK. Many members of the royal family were buried here including Queen Elizabeth I, Kind Edward I, King Charles II, and King Henry III, etc.

The early spring of London is actually warmer than we expected.
It is historical with all the classical architectures but yet it is morder with the modern buildings...

The most famous landmark of London, Big Ben, located at the north corner of the Parliament. If you look at Big Ben closely, it is huge! The size of the clock itself is bigger than a person for sure.

Looking at the Parliament and Big Ben from Westminster Bridge.

Also part of the Parliament.

Lions decorating the gate of the Parliament.

Statute on the bank of Thames River for the memory of WWII.  During the war German bombers air raid London over and over again and the Royal Air Force (RAF) bravely defended their homeland during the Battle of Britain.

The Thames River flows through the heart of London dividing it into two banks.
There are many classic buildings along both sides of the banks, including the most famous tourist attraction - London Eye.

The  Millennium Bridge - connects St. Paul's Cathedral in the north bank of Thames River and Tate Modern in the south bank. With a fancy modern look, the bridge is designed the pedestrians only and it is 325m long and 4m wide.

One of the quiet alley in the Newestminster area of London. On one of the Sunday afternoon, the street is so quiet and so empty that you wonder if anyone actually lives in this area.
