In 1998, RMIT University Australia was invited by the Vietnamese government to establish a fully foreign-owned University in Vietnam. In 2000, RMIT Vietnam was granted a license from the Ministry of Planning and Investment to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research in Vietnam.
All degrees are recognised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and are audited by the Australian Universities Quality Audit Agency. The University degrees are awarded by RMIT University in Australia which means for the first time Vietnamese students can receive an overseas education without having to leave home.
The University commenced offering programs in 2001 in Ho Chi Minh City and in 2004 in Hanoi. The University currently boasts a student population of over 3,000 students with international students from countries such as the USA, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, China, Korea and, of course, Australia.
Apart from the considerable personal benefits to families when students stay in Vietnam to study, the cost of a degree from RMIT Vietnam is now more affordable than ever. The same high-quality international degree is delivered in both Australia and Vietnam but the fees are considerably lower at RMIT Vietnam. The cost of studying the same degree in Australia is twice the cost in Vietnam. For example, the Bachelor of Commerce degree in Vietnam costs approximately USD $14,000 whereas the same degree in Australia costs USD $34,000. In addition, students at RMIT Vietnam do not have to cover costs of living in Australia and other costs such as flights, visas and health insurance.

關於美國名校在新加坡開設分校的情形,華爾街日報7/12 (Page B1)有Cris Prystay的報導:
In Bid to Globalize, U.S. Colleges Offer Degrees in Asia
裡面提到新加坡近年來以國家的力量邀請到新加坡開設分校的名校有:
1998 法國的INSEAD (EMBA)
2000 U. of Chicago (設立管理學院分院)
2003 Johns Hopkins (設立新加坡分校)
