Royal greetings digitalised
One day I read on the newspaper a fascinating piece of news about the Christmas message prepared by the Spanish Royal family. It’s not really about the message, actually; it’s the picture they attached to it, which has revealed their desperation to share their happiness with the world. In the picture, the Royal couple sat peacefully in the background, the grandmother holding the youngest royal grandchild in her arm, the rest of all the grandchildren sitting in the front row, all wearing impeccable smiles. How could this be anything wrong? Well, the problem may be that this family gathering never took place.
People who are familiar with digital photographing have noticed inconsistencies in the picture that make it obvious the photo has been digitally manipulated to put all the grandchildren along with the Royal couple, because it was simply impossible to gather all of them together at the same time.
This has taight us two important lessons: first, it has become more difficult for big families nowadays to gather together; and second, amateurish digital artists could ruin the reputation of a Royal family. 5 March 2006
