Bird Feels 'Betrayed' By Artest's Trade Demands

ESPN - After standing by Ron Artest through the aftermath of the Brawl at
Auburn Hills last season, Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird is finally
speaking out about his oft-troubled forward's most recent request that the
organization trade him.

在上個球季的奧本山事件後，大鳥最後還是決定要在最近把常惹麻煩的Artest給
交易掉。

On Monday, Bird spoke with the Indianapolis Star, the newspaper that first
reported on Artest's desire for a trade.

星期一，大鳥跟印城星報說了些東西，而這報紙就是第一個報導阿泰想要被交易
的報紙。

"I don't know if this is the right wording, but I felt betrayed," Bird told
the Star. "We're disappointed. Things happen, maybe it's a good thing. He's a
very talented player. I always liked working with him and how he went about
things on the basketball court. He's a top-12 player in the league, but we're
in a situation where we have to move on.

「我不知道這是不是一個適當的措辭，但是我感覺被背叛了。」大鳥跟星報說，

Bird recently returned from a 10-day scouting trip in Europe, which could be
one of the reasons a trade for Artest has yet to be completed.

落定了。」

Further complicating trade possibilities is the fact that Artest is due to
make $6.8 million this season, a bargain for someone of Artest's talent.
Indiana now has to figure out a way to trade for maximum talent without going
over the team's salary cap.

由於能力不錯的阿泰本季的薪資只有6.8M，所以交易便顯的得相當複雜，溜馬目
前想辦法交易，而且也要想辦法不要再給薪資增加負擔了。

Bird told the Star that he and CEO Donnie Walsh would prefer to send Artest
to a Western Conference team.

"Any time you deal a player, you would like him to go out of the conference,"
Bird said to the newspaper. "We're looking at the West, but if it's the East,
that's how it's going to be. Whether we get a draft choice or a player, we're
going to make sure it's the right deal. We've done enough to back Ronnie.

Their lineup is different. The goal isn't.

他們的陣容不一樣了，但是目標並沒有改變。

The Indiana Pacers think they can be one of the top teams in the NBA without
forward Ron Artest.

溜馬隊認為他們即使沒有前鋒Artest，他們還是可以成為全NBA的頂尖球隊之一。

The Pacers are tied for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference
despite some early problems. Staying near the top could prove more problematic,
however, because they'll have to make up for the loss of an All-Star forward.
Artest is on the inactive list for at least the next three games as the Pacers
try to trade him.

儘管在球季剛開始的時候有發生一些問題，溜馬現在可已經是東區第二了呢！
但是停留不前的成績反而讓問題更是麻煩。不過，在接下來至少三場比賽中，
阿泰都會被放在閒置名單中，所以溜馬還是得想辦法彌補阿泰的缺，而這段時

"We can give up talent for team chemistry," rookie Sarunas Jasikevicius said.
"Team chemistry is more important than talent. We definitely have enough talent
to go very far."

「為了球隊的整合，我們可以放棄自己的才能。」菜鳥小葉說，「團隊化學效
應比個人來的更重要，我們都有足夠的才能可以讓我們一直走下去。」

Artest said he thinks the Pacers will be better without him, but they still
have to replace his defensive skills and 19 points a game. Last year, they made
the playoffs without him but lost in the second round.

阿泰說他覺得溜馬如果沒有他，將會更好，但是他們依然得去彌補阿泰的防守
功力以及平均每場19分的得分。去年他們在沒有阿泰的情況下，在季後賽打到

Stephen Jackson will take over at small forward, with Jasikevicius moving into
the starting lineup at shooting guard.

Coach Rick Carlisle agrees with Jasikevicius; he says the sum of the team will
offset the loss of any individual.

"That's why you have a team," Carlisle said.

"If you do things hard and together, you can overcome some things."

Though questions about Artest will continue until he's traded, the Pacers think
they can move forward by not having him around.

"I think in some ways it's kind of a relief to have it behind us," forward
Austin Croshere said. "It's an opportunity to go forward without any
distractions; there's not any 'what ifs,' and I think it's welcomed."

The Pacers, who play at Boston tonight, are feeling confident after winning
their past two games (without Artest) by getting back to playing team

"The best way I can say it is we've played well, we've moved the ball and

"We can't put the blame on Ron. We can't say because Ron's not here,

Carlisle said the most prominent lineup change will involve Jackson and
Jasikevicius. Jackson played small forward last season after Artest's
season-ending suspension. He'll become the second scoring option behind O'Neal.
Jackson's production has increased lately. He's shooting nearly 59 percent in
the past two games.

卡帥說陣容上最主要的變動就是醜臉跟小葉。醜臉上一季在阿泰被全季禁賽後
改打小前鋒，他將會成為隊上的第二得分點（第一是小歐），醜臉最近開始慢

"He was in this position last year," Carlisle said.

"He did a terrific job considering the circumstances. Not only is he our second
scorer, but he's a guy that is going to have to make plays for us. He's going
to have to guard a lot of very good players at the (small forward) position.
His responsibility level increases given our present situation."

Jasikevicius, a natural point guard, doesn't mind playing shooting guard but
admits he needs work. His defense could be an even bigger issue now that he
must stop some of the top shooting guards.

做，既然要防守許多頂尖的SG，他的防守能力就是個大問題了。

"The last couple of games, it's been effective for us," Carlisle said.

"I wouldn't preclude anything from being a possibility. We'll continue to look
at it and do what's best for us to have a chance to win. Right now he's at that
spot and we'll see where it goes."

Pacers agree: Artest must go
All-Star forward is put on inactive list while CEO Walsh explores trading him

The Indiana Pacers will grant Ron Artest's wish and look to trade the NBA
All-Star forward, CEO Donnie Walsh said Monday.

印第安那溜馬隊的CEO Walsh星期一說道，將同意阿泰的願望，把他交易掉。

"I think Ronnie came out with something that made a lot of sense to me, and
that is he's always living down his past in this franchise," Walsh said. "I
do think it's time to break apart and get a new start somewhere else."

「我認為阿泰說了一些東西而且給了我不少感觸，在這個球隊發展的過程中，
他一直無法揮散過去的陰影。」Walsh說，「我想該是時候打散它，並且到另
外一個新的地方重新開始了。」


Artest told The Star on Saturday that his past haunts him here, he dislikes
playing for coach Rick Carlisle and he can't reach his potential with the
team.

Walsh said he considered retaining Artest after learning about his request on
Saturday, but once Artest repeated his desire to play elsewhere over the

Jermaine O'Neal said. "Ron doesn't want to be here, so Ron doesn't matter

If Artest Wants Trade, He Hasn’t Told Walsh

If Ron Artest does indeed want to be traded, he hasn't told the right
people.

如果阿泰真的想要被交易，他並沒有跟正確的人提這件事。

The report of Artest's unhappiness originated from a TNT telecast Friday
night and emanated through other media outlets around the country, but
franchise CEO and President Donnie Walsh Saturday night he has not heard it
from Artest himself.

阿泰不高興的報導源自於星期五晚上TNT的電視廣播，並且透過全國的其他媒體
發出，但是老闆Walsh星期六晚上並沒有聽阿泰親口提起這件事。

"Ronnie has never said anything like this to me," Walsh said before the
Pacers beat Memphis 80-66 in Conseco Fieldhouse. "All the other questions are
franchise questions and they'll be answered by the franchise."

on Thanksgiving and sat out the next game. After playing six more, he
aggravated the injury earlier this week against Dallas. He told the
Indianapolis Star he expected to miss at least five games but the Pacers have
not confirmed that prognosis, describing his status as day-to-day.

阿泰因為手腕的傷痛休息兩場比賽坐在場邊看比賽，這個傷是在感恩節對上
騎士隊的比賽中，被LeBron James所用傷的，而且他隔天也因此休息了一場

Artest was not available for comment.

Coach Rick Carlisle said he was not aware that any trade request had been
made.

"That's not my department," he said. "It's not something I'm going to talk
about, and I don't have any knowledge of it other than hearing some rumors
about it."
