FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION 2

These body clinching corset belts not only sharpen your outfit, but they also help tremendously to shape your better posture. You can dress it up like Kate Moss, or simply just use it to give your daywear a final touch. I would collect a whole closet-ful of them if my apartment were a little bigger…

TALKIN'BOUT MY GENERATION

Chloe Sevigny is one of those few celebrities who possess not only tastes, but also the ability to improvise. Since her first soldout collaboration with Opening Ceremony, I have been longing for a second desperately-- I am totally in agreement with her 90s "free-styled" sensibility, just a generation thing I guess...

OLSEN OBSESSION

I am recently so obsessed with the Olsen sisters' line The Row (which refers to the Saville Row, London's not so hidden secret for timeless Bespoke tailoring.) The restrained palette of black and white or a few colors and slim well-fitted silhouette say much about my own style; and it looks good on just about everyone. I have been practically wearing The Row as my preferred uniform.

SNACK ON-- Fisherman Soup

I finally decided to share my top gastronomical secrets: hot fresh fish soup. I used to get it from this little UWS fish monger(with fresh lime and cilantro, absolutely no MSG.) Now living in Williamsburg, I was fortunate enough to find it at another neighborhood restaurant. New Young Fish Market 975 Amstrerdam Ave. (Corner of 108 st.) Le Barricou 533 Grand Street, Brooklyn

CHILL OUT

I don't need to remind you how cold it gets in a New York winter. This is a look from the A. P. C. winter catalog that I would copy again and again, because it keeps me so warm and I can go anywhere in this fierce weather. I'd also put on these Wulu earrings(Maggie Cheung's favorite) to lighten it up.

PARTY ON

Absolutely love this Balmain outfit that Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the Iron Man UK premiere. Perfect to steal the show at the New Year's party--lace LBD, modified tuxedo jacket, with killer platform pumps.

HIGHLANDER

If not wrapped up in some Peruvian blanket, I cannot wear enough of this grandpa style cardigan to get me through the toughest, unpredictable autumn months in New York. Ancient Aztec pattern goes so well with it-- perfect to spice up a seemingly subtle and homey outfit.

TOUGH LOVE

I am not really an "army jacket" kind of gal, but I adore the modified versions--these cozy army parkas from A.P.C., the absolute go-to place for smart french chic. They are often lined with soft, warm materials and look so sexy with feminine floor length maxi skirt.

DREAMCATCHER

Nice, simple and low-key. I spotted this outfit in Chelsea and then was running around town to find the perfect "Dreamcatcher Tee". Finally at the end of the tunnel I found this one at the Urban Outfitter. Dreamcatcher is a Native American handmade object decorated with feathers and beads to filter through only good dreams. So needed for urban young professional who barely gets enough of sleep each day...

EASY PEASY

This is the look I have been drooling for all summer--a perfect tomato-red solid color dress with sexy cuff sandals, painted leather bag as the artistic garnish. And oh the picture perfect sunglasses are this pair by Tom Ford, as seen on Angelina Jolie—oversize and so complimenting on anyone, looks great on the hair too.

JUST LIKE A BOY

This is my mix of the 80s: oversize blazer over a classic Mickey Mouse T-shirt, vintage Lacoste red metal frame glasses, disco ball accessories, slim cut cord or velvet trousers, with a twist of updated platform pump, and last but not least, sexy clutch wallet. But no shoulder pads please.

MAGGIE CHEUNG 張曼玉

I have always admired her straight forward, low key, slightly rocker chick and effortless chic style; not to mention she is definitely my all-time favorite Chinese movie star! I like this outfit which she wore to a fashion show-- candy faux fur fluffy jacket, clingy gray T-shirt, classic saddle bag, baggy pants and low key California sneakers. Nothing too fancy, just Maggie Cheung 張曼玉.

MOD-ification

Crisp 60s MOD look has a very architectural quality to it-- geometric shapes, piping details and experimental materials such as texturized wool, pleather and paper. This season, a few labels such as Paul & Joe, Derek Lam all presented some updated MOD pieces so that we don't have to fight over an authentic Courreges dress at a vintage couture store.

OLD FASHION

Think movies like A Room with a View, or Gosford Park--the 19th Century British Country Look--so classy and it is all about texture and detail. To balance an old school tweed jacket or a plaid trench coat, play with 3 dimensional bags like a barrel purse or a bucket bag. Tomato red stiletto boots also add all the sassy-ness to it.

KATE RULES 2

While everybody is trying to get Kate's Bohemian style, I mostly admire how she can make a casual business look so effortlessly chic. Here is the recipe-- Repetto's "Zizi" flats in patent, a softer version of oxfords; perfectly fit cropped pants; a riding blazer; and last but not least, a bright red Hermes Birkin (I replaced it with a Plume for more subtlety.)

FASHION WEEK

This is the coolest girl I saw during the New York Fashion Week here. I love how she jazzed up the girly country look with wide cotton belt, exquisitely detailed Lanvin "Kansas" bag, and punky studded bangle worn as a cuff-- a complete "edgy glamour" look.

WOMEN IN UNIFORM

"Operations" offers us modern working girls an easy formula to look chic and edgy at work, yet totally practical. Their concept store offers everything from rocking Scottish military jacket to gorgeous linen farmer's pants, often with very elegant twist such as neon color lining or anodized metal hardwares. In the morning I just put on a bright color T-shirt, a pair of comfortable pants, and a military jacket and I am all good to go.

SNACK ON -- Napoleon

My favorite dessert item ever: Napoleon--layers of fresh cream or ricotta cheese, between flaky cookie crust...umm. FALAI, a little Florentine eatery on Lafayette makes the best Napoleon ever, with hazel nut infused cream. (265 Lafayette, btwn Prince & Spring.) Also try Fay Da Backery's two alternatives: original and cheesecake version. Cafe Lalo offers authentic European taste that is also very good.

LESS IS MORE

Spotted this cool outfit in Nolita, seemingly odd combination, but I was so captured by it.
The key is to play it simple: classic linen little black dress, classic lady-like chain-linked
purse, classic girly ballet flats in luxurious material, the downtown twist? An edgy bold
diamond ring and a reggae-ish crochet cap. The result is sort of downtown girl with
uptown chic.
