12/1
I woke up around 9 in the morning. Although I actually woke up around 7, I still wanted to lie in my bed. The reason I woke up was because I had a bad dream. I dreamed that for some emergency I had to leave and go back to Taiwan. I left my luggage in the hostel and when I came back form Taiwan, all of my things had been stolen. I saw my friends appeared with my clothes and pants. I asked him where did he get these clothes, he evaded my question and ran away. That was a terrible dream.
I had a day off today and I started writing my diary. I had not finished my 11/ 23’s and 11/24’s diary yet. Originally, I wrote it in mandarin, but I decided to write it in English after I finished my first English diary. It is a little hard for my to think in Chinese now. Except for talking to Susan, I haven’t spoked Chinese for a long time. I even dreamed in English.
I decided to improve my reading skills by reading some books. I tried to read some of the volunteers’ books, but it was to hard for me. Although I brought my own English book “The kite runner”, it still too hard for me to read. I have read that book before in Chinese. It is a great and touching book. I heard that the movie edited from the book is going to be released in the near future. I would definitely go to see it in a theater.
Heather led me to the town library to borrow some books. She picked tow books for me, one of them was written by Roald Dahl. Roald Dahl is a famous English writer. His books are funny and easy to read. Most of the people in Australia have read his books when they were young. Although it is not hard for me, it took me a few days to read it. I wrote down every word that I didn’t understand and the sentences that I thought were beautiful. I thought I could use some of them in my diary.
I love the life in Exmouth. It feels like I’ve gone to a language school in a resort and leant some turtle monitoring skills. The weather in Exmouth is very hot. The temperature here can reach 41 degree and it was 44 degrees during the first week we were here. But weather in Australia is not as humid as Taiwan. You won’t sweat a lot. Exmouth is a small town located in the west of Australia. There are only 2500 people living in here. Although it is a small town, it is self-contained. I grew up in a big city, the atmosphere fells totally different. The paces of the people who live in big city are faster than people living in a small town. I prefer a leisurely life rather than a life like a fly, rushing everywhere.
When it comes to the fly, I have to say that everything in Australia is beautiful except the god damn fly. They are everywhere. They are annoying when they stick on your face, especially around the eyes and the mouth. I admit I have eaten some of them. It was disgusting. We have to buy a fly net to cover our heads to prevent invasion by the flies. In Taiwan, flies are not interested in human, they are only interested in two things, foods and shits. If I am not a food for the flies, I must be a giant moving shit for these ugly creatures. The Australian government should replace the kangaroo and the emu and use the flies as their national icon. I mean it seriously.
