We went to the beach before sunrise as usual. But we had an examination today. We separated in small groups and went to different beaches. We got our respective clipboard with different kinds of sheets. We had to determinate on our own which one is a nest and which one is a false crawl this time. We also had to write the reasons that stand for our decision. We could not discuss with each other whilst we made our decision. Although it was not a hard test for me, I still felt a little nervous. It is not hard for me to point out a nest, but it is not easy for me to write down the reasons in English. Fortunately, I passed the test and so did everyone. We could be official turtle trackers!!
I had a leisurely afternoon. I slept for about 2 or 3 hours. I wandered what my friends who came to Australia with me were doing now when I was enjoying the beautiful day in Exmouth. Had they already found jobs? Were they still in Perth? I felt I really made the right choice when I decided to become a conservation volunteer first when I came to Australia. If anyone wants to come to Australia and have a working holiday, I strongly recommend they begin as conservation volunteer. It is better and cheaper than going to a language school when you come to Australia. You will discover how friendly the people are and how interesting the different culture is.
For example, men in Taiwan like to wear sleeveless shirts. They probably want to display their muscles. But people here call these clothes “wife-beaters”. It means guys who wear them were probably hit their wife at home. It is so interesting and shocking because I brought some clothes that will make me become a wife-beater. (My mama always says men should be gentle to women, I won’t be a wife-beater. Ha! Ha!) I thought it might be better to wear T-shirt when I want to ask an Australian girl out for dinner.
I watched a movie named “Conspiracy Theory” which featured Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts. It is a story about a man who becomes an assassin after being brain-washed by some secret agency. He is a taxi driver who read lots of newspapers everyday. From the newspaper, he always wants to find some clues that someone is going to been assassinated. He worries about that the secret agency will find him someday, so he lives in a nervous and careful life. He will climb up to the roof and make a detour to his home. One day, the secret agency finds him and want to terminate his life. After an exciting story line, he eventually gets his normal life back. It is a happy ending. Movies in Australia aren’t like those in Taiwan which have subtitles. It was a little hard for me to keep my pace on what the character saying in the movie. But I could still understand what the story is. Maybe I’ll watch it again with English subtitles when I come back to Taiwan.
By the way, the theme song of the movie is “can’t take my eyes off of you”. I think it is an old English jazz song. I had heard it when I was in Taiwan. It is a beautiful song and it’s one of only a few English songs that I know the words to.
I don’ t have to work tomorrow, so I can sleep as late as I want. It is great to be a slacker.
