deargenius.jpg
Dear Genius: The Letters of Ursula Nordstrom重讀,看到這篇對Edward Gorey的催稿信,覺得趣味橫生,甚為經典。

December 23, 1971

Dear Mr. Gorey:
I wonder if you will remember me? Perhaps my name is vaguely familiar to you? I am the editor at Harper & Row who wanted you to finish your book, List, so that we could publish it in the fall of 1972. We wanted to get the book out early so our excellent sales force could spread out across the country and show it to booksellers VERY EARLY, and thus build up a good sale and make you very rich.

Really, Mr. Gorey, I think it would be easier for you to finish the above mentioned book than to have to receive mournful phone calls from me. And now this letter. Hope is still flickering within my heart- but it is a guttering flame and at any moment may go out.

Won't you start the New Year RIGHT and finish your book in January? We want to give it the best production we possibly can; we don't want to rush the plate-making or the printing. Do, dear Mr. Gorey, try to cooperate a little.

I think you go to movies all the time. Please pull yourself together, and kindly oblige your ever devoted,
