第八季的CSI：Las Vegas或許是為了刺激收視率，每一集的案子越來越特異，也玩弄更多花招。

其中一集描述發生在恐怖片拍片現場的殺人事件，當中許多台詞和場景不但隱含恐怖片的元素，也向許多恐怖片的經典致敬。若能辨識出這些編劇的苦心安排，不但不覺得劇情可怕，反能從中領略如同尋寶的樂趣。

當電影製作人帶領警官Brass和鑑識人員到拍片現場找尋當家花旦的失蹤線索時，他說："Ah, Weatherly ... how has she died for us, let me count the ways."（「啊，薇樂莉...她怎麼替我們死的，讓我說給你們聽。」）此時觀眾隨著鏡頭移動看到這位花旦的許多作品海報，而製作人接著對探員詳述花旦在每齣戲裡的不同死法。

這句"how has she died for us, let me count the ways"，小小的借用修改了英國浪漫時期詩人Elizabeth Barrett Browning的原作。這首十四行詩是她的著名代表作品之一，出自詩集《Sonnets from the Portuguese》。原作沒有標題，是該詩集的第四十三號作品。原文如下：

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning寫出這首詩時正是受到Robert Browning的熱烈追求（兩人的愛情故事一直是文壇佳話），在詩裡Elizabeth Barrett Browning描述她是如何深愛情人、具體描述她的真摯情感。此詩的第一行"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways"（我如何愛汝？且讓我娓娓細數道來）相當有名，也常被廣泛改寫應用。

原本十九世紀的情詩到了CSI，搖身一變，成了製作人嘴裡用來說明當家花旦的在戲裡不同死法的開場白。不過，替電影公司賺進大把鈔票的女演員可是製作人眼前的大紅人，這樣的搖錢樹當然是製作人的親愛寶貝。編劇借用了詩人的情話，玩了文字趣味，也藉此表現失蹤的花旦在製作人心中的地位。
