雖然不是絕對，但偶然的巧遇常會帶來驚喜。在車上搜尋廣播頻道，因為Five for Fighting的"100 Years"而停在很久沒有收聽的ICRT。"100 Years"結束，接下來播出的歌曲，前奏聽來好熟悉，但我就是想不起來歌名，更想不起來到底是誰演唱。等到人聲出現，我才恍然大悟：「啊！就是Nelson!」

1990年出道的Nelson是一對來自演藝世家的雙胞胎兄弟：Matthew Nelson與Gunnar Nelson。祖父母Ozzie Nelson與Harriet Nelson 影視雙棲，主演的電視廣播劇廣受歡迎；父親則是知名的流行搖滾樂手Rick Nelson，在五０、六０年代受歡迎的程度不下於貓王。兄弟倆以Nelson作為團名在1990年發行了第一張專輯"After The Rain"，專輯中的"(I Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection"一躍成為排行榜的冠軍。憑藉俊美外型和音樂表現，他們迅速走紅，成為媒體寵兒。

雖然Nelson不是「一片樂團」，不過他們後來的專輯就不像第一張專輯那樣轟動又賣座了。這幾年來他們的專輯也改為獨立發行，不再交由主流唱片公司製作。外型上，兩人剪去當年飄逸的長髮，歲月也在他們臉上留下痕跡。這麼多年來，唯一不變的，大概就是他們依舊為了自己的音樂理想而努力。

剛剛接觸西洋流行音樂不久，就碰上了Nelson。我也曾經為之瘋迷了一陣子，買了海報、雜誌和徽章。他們當紅的時候曾經來台灣辦了一個小型的歌友會，我還拉了學姐一起去參加。只是，缺乏追逐明星經驗的我們，以為早到一兩個小時就可以坐到前排位子，萬萬沒想到我們最後只能坐到會場的最後幾排。當年埋怨前排歌迷不好好待在位子上，現在回想起來，國軍文藝中心根本就不適合舉辦這類活動，不過那時似乎也沒什麼其他地點適合舉行這類活動。至於他們的專輯，我前前後後也就只買過這一張"After the Rain"。要不是有次在唱片行看到他們1995年發行的"Because They Can"，我大概就真的以為他們是「一片樂團」了。

Nelson架了自己的官方網站，資料詳盡，但樂團介紹裡有一段話讓我不以為然："With the rise of grunge rock in the mid-90s, pop music grew dark and foreboding. Matthew and Gunnar chose not to compromise their positive, drug-free posture to suit the trend."的確，grunge與他們的音樂相較的確是「黑暗」、「負面」許多，但是grunge音樂並非通通沾染毒品，也不是所有歌曲都是黑暗又沉重。就算他們當時與之「妥協」、想趕搭這股grunge風潮，也不一定能像Nirvana或Pearl Jam引領grunge潮流。

Nelson畢竟是帥哥，在他們的網站上看到留言或與他們合照的歌迷，幾乎都是以女性為主。看到那些留言，我不禁想起自己曾經視他們為偶像的時期。

在廣播裡聽到的歌就是他們的成名冠軍曲"(I Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection"。我從櫃子裡翻出了那捲錄音帶，這麼多年沒聽，幸好沒發霉。回頭再聽年少時期喜歡過的歌曲，聽老歌的感覺大概就是如此吧！
