在《戀人絮語》一書中，羅蘭‧巴特如此分析戀人的相處時光：

「節日。戀人感到與情人的任何一次相會都像是一次節日。

節日，是被等待（可預見）的東西。我所期冀於即將來臨的節日，是盡情的享樂和盛宴；我興高采烈的就像個孩子-- 對他來說，節日的來臨意味著縱情歡樂：我面對著的是我的『一切幸福的源泉』。」

至於為了這一天約定俗成的日子，美國歷史頻道(The History Channel)推出應景節目討論情人節的起源及演變，網頁上也有相關資料和好玩的遊戲。

英國作家Carol Ann Duffy應邀寫了一首"Valentine"的詩作，後來收錄在1993年出版的詩集Mean Time。在這天讀這首詩，再適當也不過。

這一天，和其他日子並無不同。用拖欠的稿子填塞這一天的分秒，似乎也不算太糟。
