如果一支樂隊，能譜出像Coldplay那樣爽朗動聽的Piano-Ballad旋律，一方面又挾帶著UNKLE、Portishead以及DJ Shadow的Trip-Hop碎拍電子，是否就能成為炙手可熱的新晉樂隊，亦或只是留下短暫的話題性？如果只談話題，那麼來自英國北方里茲(Leeds)的無狀態樂隊(Stateless)，首張同名大碟便獲得了Arctic Monkeys、Kasabian唱片製作人Jim Abbiss操刀護盤，相信絕對能引起眾家傳媒的討論與青睞。過往來自里茲的樂隊身上似乎仍竄動著Dance-Rock.Punk的音樂血液，¡Forward ,Russia!、O Fracas、The Sunshine Underground以及Dead Disco等前仆後繼的景象相信仍歷歷在目；然而Stateless卻無視家鄉正被一股Disco-Punk音樂熱潮所席捲，反倒走出舞池潛心創作，交出了一張更像是布里斯托(Bristol)樂隊心儀的音樂型態，如Trip-Hop.Downtempo.Electronica等等肌里的音樂唱片，聽起來有些冒險，卻意外地得到了柏林電音名廠!K7 Records的青睞，並且在Jim Abbiss的協助下，他們逐步成為Roots Manuva、Solesides等人鍾愛的樂隊，也獲得了Mixmag、Jockey Slut、DJ Magazine以及Mojo等音樂雜誌的高度評價；絕對不只是一支Coldplay的Copy品如此簡單。

該怎麼形容馬修賀伯(Matthew Herbert)呢？唱片巫師、極端政客、混音達人還是音樂家？我想上述這些字眼皆存在於Herbert身上。喜愛舞曲音樂的樂迷，一定都記得他曾經幫Björk、REM、John Cale、Roisin Murphy以及Yoko Ono等等大牌製作Remix；混音達人的名號不徑而走。在他多達數十個化名單位的音樂資歷裡，可以預期他是一位何等忙碌的音樂製作人；卻能夠同時分身打理Accidental(Soundslike)廠牌的事務，委實難得。所以當再度瀏覽Herbert的官網時，見到一幅深深黑眼圈的Herbert照片時，完全可以理解他已經走到了著魔的階段。採樣(Sampling)與重新混音(Remix)是Herbert的主要創作，但他仍沒有忘情兒時爵士及古典音樂所帶給他的薰染；多年前曾經帶著16位樂手Big Band姿態出版了一張名為「Goodbye Swingtime」的唱片，玩得是Future & Modern Jazz及Swing音樂，當時對於Herbert尚不熟悉的樂迷肯定被此舉給嚇了一跳。隨後Herbert將事業重心從倫敦遷徙至德國柏林，繼續找來他最鍾愛的女歌手Dani Siciliano合作專輯「Scale」，玩得是Disco與Cool Jazz等復古音樂。到底Herbert的音樂品味為何？正當大家被弄得一頭霧水時，新唱片「Score」接踵而至。「Score」不再是Deep House、Disco或是為人熟悉的Field Recordings、Sampling等等音樂，而是一張集結Herbert多年來曾經參與製作及譜寫的電影配樂作品；裡頭包含了西班牙女星潘妮洛普克魯茲的新戲「Manolete」、Gorillaz舞台指導Blanca Li的電影「Le Defi」裡的老調重彈「Singing in the Rain」等等，其中他為電影「Vida Y Color」所譜寫的配樂更奪得法國圖盧茲影展(Toulouse Cine Espana)的最佳原創音樂。無論是「Around the House」、「Plat Du Jour」、「Scale」還是「Score」，Herbert不管做什麼、都是那麼樣的出色；在音樂創作的領域中，他絕對是一個值得效法的對象。

自92年於一場Fakesch的Techno音樂派對遇上後，Christian de Luca與Michael Fakesch這兩位音樂上的搭檔過去十餘年間便一直以Funkstörung的隊名活躍於德國電子舞曲音樂圈中。過去Funkstörung的音樂一直受到兩人各異的音樂天份影響，廣泛地遊走於Hip-Hop、Electro、House與IDM等各個領域，經常被拿來和英國雙人組合Autechre相互比較。Funkstörung除了製作自身的音樂唱片外，同時也是一隊出色的混音組合，曾替Jean Michel Jarre、 Wu-Tang Clan以及Björk等人作嫁混音。九九年「Additional Productions」及Ｏ一年「Vice Versa」為他們樹立了貫通電音嘻哈音樂的典範；Ｏ四年交由The Designers Republic編列、!K7與Die Gestalten Verlag共同發行的DVD書籍「Isolated. Triple Media.」，完整地記錄了Funkstörung的設計與音樂概念，並收錄多款珍貴短片及親自繪製的塗鴉作品。二ＯＯ六年Funkstörung於官方網站上正式宣佈解散，兩人並作個人單飛發展。而這張本年初由柏林!K7廠牌編列發行的唱片作品「Appendix」雖然不是一張全新的專輯唱片，但收錄了Funkstörung為Barry Adamson、Björk、Towa Tei、Lamb、Nils Petter Molvaer等人重新混音的歌曲，也算是留給歌迷一份最好的告別獻禮。
