Velvet Goldmine是Bowie的一首收錄在Ziggy Stardust裡頭的bonus，由於Bowie不爽被這部電影醜化，所以不准電影用任何他的歌。於是他們請了Shudder To Think和Grant Lee Buffalo這兩個樂隊來寫模仿Bowie的風格，寫出了幾首這樣有華麗味道的歌。Shudder To Think寫的Ballad of Mawell Demon取材自Bowie的All the Young Dudes，其他的模仿曲還有Hot One，而Grant Lee Buffalo寫出的The Whole Shebang則是消遣了Bowie的專輯Hunky Dory。

另外影片中的樂隊Venus In Fur則是影射了Brian Eno仍在時的Roxy Music，樂隊的主唱Thom Yorke (Radiohead)生動地模仿了Roxy Music主唱Bryan Ferry的唱腔，2HB出現在下流俱樂部，Ladytron則是Slade第一次在club遇見了他老婆的那首，Virginia Plain是新經紀人幫Slade製作新造型的那首，Baby's on Fire則是影片高潮：在甜蜜演唱會時Slade舔Curt的屌那首，Bitter-Sweet是兩人鬧翻後Slade在哭的那首。這幾首全都是Roxy Music的歌，因此Brian Slade這角色雖然主要在講Bowie，但在音樂上還結合了另一華麗大團Roxy Music。

影片中模仿Iggy Pop的樂隊叫Wylde Ratttz，他們作的Iggy Pop歌有TV Eye (Curt脫褲甩屌那段)，吉他手有the Stooges (Iggy Pop的樂隊)的Ron Asheton、 Sonic Youth的Thurston Moore，和從Gumball (風格是類似Nirvana的Grunge)來的Don Fleming。貝斯手是the Minutemen (hardcore團)的Mike Watt，鼓手是Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth)，主唱則是來自Mudhoney (龐克團)的Mark Arm。

Curt Wild這個角色主要是影射Iggy Pop，雖然時間張飛打岳飛，但從外型、名字和吸毒的樣子看來，也幽了Nirvana自殺主唱Kurt Cobain一默。

這張專輯其他不錯的配樂還有Brian Eno的Needles in the Camel's Eye(片頭曲)、Placebo (片中的小丑樂隊)翻唱的20th Century Boy，Pulp的We Are the Boyz，Lou Reed (Velvet Underground)的Satellite of Love和T. Rex的Diamond Meadows…。
