Wire的首張專輯「Pink Flag」(1977)是龐克音樂經典、二十一首曲子一氣呵成、酣暢淋漓。第二張專輯「Chairs Missing」(1978)開始進入質變階段，旋律編寫與電子合成器的運用，在龐克運動方興未艾之際，甘冒援引Pink Floyd前衛元素的禁忌，Wire本來就不是簡單龐克吉他刷弦，展現了更多Colin Newman等人在藝術學校的功底 。第三張專輯「154」(1979)電音搖滾更超越時代。短短三年間，Wire經歷了龐克、後龐克、實驗、前衛等蛻變，勇於創新、自我突破的搖滾精神，吸引了無數追隨者，八０年代時R.E.M、Big Black等樂隊都曾翻唱他們的歌曲， 其影響力更在九０年代達至高峰，例如Elastica獨樹一幟的電子搖滾曲風，即深受Wire的影響。
