音樂是這世界上最美好的事

說到做公益，愛心不落人後的Radiohead一定參一腳（謎之音：U2也是很愛？），這回是為了獻給經歷過第一次世界大戰的英國老兵Harry Patch，他是一戰中活得最久的一位，才剛於2009.07.25高齡過世，享年111歲，同時也是全世界年紀最老排名第66位。

Thom Yorke寫道，幾年前他聽了Radio4與Harry Patch的訪談，Harry Patch描述戰爭的方式震撼了自己，進而變成了這首致敬曲目〈Harry Patch (In Memory Of)〉的靈感，他們由Jonny負責編弦樂，在一個修道院完成錄製，湯姆叔叔說，希望後代不會忘記戰爭的意義與價值。

那段Harry Patch的話是：「Irrespective of the uniforms we wore,
we were all victims.」（無論我們穿的是什麼制服，我們都是犧牲者）。說得多好的一句話。我個人也希望，正在打仗的笨蛋快點停止吧，拍那麼多戰爭片，卻還自己去打別人，真是Very Stupid。

Recently the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war Harry Patch died at the age of 111. I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on the Today program on Radio4. The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me. It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death. It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny. I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor.

It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us.
I hope we do not forget.

今年五月Colin Greenwood宣布他們已經開始錄第八張大碟，製作人還是Nigel Godrich；Thom Yorke個人也據傳要幫吸血鬼電影【暮光之城：新月】寫首新歌。Radiohead八月底要到Reading / Leeds Festivals表演，可以看到的朋友真是爽炸了！
