音樂是這世界上最美好的事

「What the fuck have you done lately?」是電影【刺客聯盟】男主角的一句台詞；「What's Your Function in Your Life?」則是【變態五星級】中殺手殺人前的問句。這幾個「？」或許是我目前急需回答的，被用槍指著腦袋可能更容易得到解答。聽著想著。他出了一張大標提點著內疚的專輯。Beck。會不會他也正在煩惱？

Repeat了幾遍，Beck終究還是做出了一張平淡的專輯。半個小時的長度、沒有標示性的歌曲，這並非是壞，而可能是徹底的虛無。正如專輯同名曲〈Modern Guilt〉的闡釋：「I feel uptight when I walk in the city / I feel so cold when I'm at home」（無論在城市或家裏，皆是極度的緊繃與寒冷）以及「Modern guilt, I'm stranded with nothing / Modern guilt, I'm under lock and key」（這是現代的內疚，我被虛無擱淺，我被緊緊鎖住）。

身邊好多個朋友最近都不快樂，這Sad流行桿菌太普遍也太容易被化驗出。你知道自己在做什麼，卻又不真正瞭解那件事的真義。於是我們有了迷失的課題。

平淡的專輯比想像中的還要波瀾起伏。
