M. Ward

Neil Young《Living With War》、Green Day《American Idiot》、Madonna《American Life》…

Ward的靈感來源則是戰後的心靈調適:「I looked to the postwar music of the late 1940s and 50s. I had the naive, simplistic idea that producers and writers and artists of the time helped in a minuscule way to change the mind-set of America」(我追溯觀察1940、50年代的戰後音樂而有了個天真簡單的啟發:當時的唱片製作人、詞曲創作人或藝術家都在某某微小的層面,幫助改變了美國的心靈狀態)。於是我們聽見專輯同名曲〈Post-War〉,和著曼陀鈴,有了緩慢的心跳頻率與通透事物的質地,幽微地唱著:「You say the money just ain't what it used to be. / Man how we used to tear apart this town. / Put a dollar into the machine and you'll remember how.」
《Post-War》也是M. Ward首次以樂團形式錄製,邀來Neko Case、My Morning Jacket主唱Jim James、The Decemberists鼓手Rachel Blumberg,還有The Thermals 鼓手Jordan Hudson助陣;光聽Neko Case合聲翻唱Daniel Johnston的〈To Go Home〉那吉他、BASS、鋼琴加兩套鼓的恣意暢快,你就會發現M.

M. Ward / Poison Cup
One
One
One
One or two won't do
Cos I want it all
And a sip
A sip
A sip or a spoonful won't do
No, I want it all
And I hope
I hope
Hope you know what I'm thinking of
I want all of your love
I need all of your love
She said "If love
If Love
Is a posion cup
Then drink it up"
"Cos a sip
A sip
Or a spoonful won't do
Won't do nothing for you
Except mess you up"
And I hope
I hope
Hope you know what this means
I'm gonna give you everything
I'm gonna give you everything
