1. The purpose of the ESL reading
By reading an article, we aim at figuring out the author’s purpose, the main idea of the article, and the author’s attitude related to the main idea. Then, after catching up with the main idea and author’s attitude, we can find out which detail is important for the author to support his/her main idea the attitude, and we can also know the relationship among different details.

2. The focus of the ESL reading
After understanding the purpose, main idea and attitude of the author, we can focus the reading on the important parts of an article. Here, stop thinking in Chinese and transform your brain into a total English environment. Consequently, by pointing out the function and usage of a word, you can locate your mind in important messages which the author tries to convey.
