Depeche Mode第11張專輯《Playing The Angel》10月底問世

當我輩期待著Depeche Mode再現江湖時，Martin L. Gore與Dave Gahan已然一先一後推出了個人專輯；似乎他們也對如今風雲再起的Electro復古風潮無所卷戀，雖然他們曾經就是這些樂聲的製造先驅，然而當年留下的名曲如”Enjoy The Silence”與"Policy Of Truth"等，還讓Martin L. Gore 於91年時獲ASCAP(美國作曲家、作家與出版商協會)頒獎表揚；第44屆英國Ivor Novello音樂典禮上，他再次獲頒國際成就獎，表彰他身為Depeche Mode主力創作者對全球樂迷的貢獻。不過這二十幾年來，無論是專輯錄音或現場表演，Martin L. Gore始終平行發展著他演繹他人作品的嗜好。終於在1989年他首度發行了一張6曲的翻唱EP，以簡約的合成器風格，重唱了Morriseey、Ofra Haza、Throwing Muses等風格迥異的作品。儘管他像是自嘲地將其命名為贗品[Counterfeit]，卻讓樂迷正式見識到他獨門選曲及擔任主唱原來魅力非凡。事隔多年，[Counterfeit 2]終於問世，仍以贗品為名，卻無處不散發著原曲難尋的氣味。或許是[Exciter]專輯中Depeche Mode與Mark Bell合作的餘音未了，Martin L. Gore這回更深入了Bjork、Mum、Dntel這近年卓然成家的Glitch-Pop領域。曾為Gavin Friday與Hal Willner樂手，也坐鎮過Depeche Mode多場巡迴之電聲互動與節奏設定的Andrew Phillpot扶正製作大任，於是從50年代鄉村搖擺樂天王Hank Thompson，低鬱歌德詩魔Nick Cave、環境電聲先驅Brian Eno到獨立搖滾先聲Velvet Underground，甚至是Iggy Pop首張個人作品[The Idiot]與David Bowie合寫的”Tiny Girls”與Bob Dlyan也改編過的傳統歌謠”In My Time Of Dying，此時在Martin L. Gore竟然頗有Marc Almond華麗之姿的唱腔中，全變成了這疏離異境裡燦爛的奇花。搖滾奇女子Nico 於85年專輯[Camera Obscura]中的”Das Lied Vom Einsamen Mädchen”(寂寞女子之歌)更意外地有著Massive Attack的氣味。如果這竟是等待Depeche Mode新作的中場餘興節目，恐怕世人都大大低估了Martin L. Gore！

同行友人看著這顛倒的Logo， 不假思索地將之命名為 【Go To Hell】系列。語畢未久，我們在當地夜市一家店裡 ， 果真見到了全『系列』。
