在那個充斥著電子舞曲喧鬧的80年代

意境深遠，曲風恬適如同60年代末期民謠風格的歌曲

就像是滿桌調味過重而油膩的大餐中的一盤開胃爽口的小菜

而夢幻學園(Dream Academy)的這首歌適時地出現在當時的歌壇中有著清新耐人尋味的風格

雖說當時來自德國的阿爾發村(Alphaville)的歌曲詞意如同其日耳曼民族性哲學意味深遠而發人深省

畢竟還是主流的電子搖滾舞曲來包裝這深遠的文字意涵

而夢幻學園(Dream Academy)以溫暖的弦樂...木管樂器襯托出的作品格外令人耳目一新

多了一分人文色彩的溫暖與動人

古典而優雅清新的風格讓氣質指數加分不少



還記得他們曾在當時華納飛碟的安排下來過臺灣做密集式的短期宣傳

1986年初我還在華視的週末派跟連環泡看過他們宣傳

也在一些雜誌上看到他們接受的訪談內容

來自英國的這三人雖有著冷冷的距離感

尤其是女團員Kate St John與長髮男主唱Nick Laird-Clowes

那氣質與模樣還真有那麼點夢幻的氣質

談吐間卻有著歐式的優雅氣質與濃厚的人文色彩

不同於美式風格的國外藝人作風


這首Life In The Northern Town描寫那北方小鎮微寒而陰鬱的的生活點滴

也許工作機會不如倫敦那些大都會多

緩慢的時間流動

步調的遲滯

彷彿時間都停格在某一段時代中

所以詞中寫著Like Sinatra in a younger day ....

John F. Kennedy and the Beatles......

在一個歷盡滄桑的北方小鎮老人口中的傳奇

時間是一個片段而非連續

彷彿那陰冷的北方小鎮的老人與一切都歷歷在目

帶點淡淡的哀傷

就像是聽到"Send In The Clowds"一樣的久久不能自已

這首歌試圖告訴我們什麼呢

是繁華喧鬧的電子舞曲歌頌著經濟起飛的80年代裡

是否還有被遺忘的蕭條的一角呢

這樣的人間終極關懷是當時少見的

也讓這首歌成為一首清新的秀異之作

只可惜這三人出了三張專輯後就消失了

留下來的也只有這首動聽的歌曲了
