English Writing--Sexual Orientation Discrimination

Although we live in a modern, open, and liberal century, the variety of sexual orientation still remains a controversial issue in many countries. While most people usually think about that the right thing should be something following the main stream, those having a different sexual orientation, such as homosexuality or bisexuality, are generally regarded as queer or morbid. Social bias is a form of discrimination that hurts these “queers” and makes them finally become really morbid.

People with an unusual sexual orientation have trouble in their sexual self-identity. According to many research reports, one’s the sexual preference is inborn; it can not be changed by medicine or psychotherapy. However, social prejudice still assumes that these “strange” guys are sick and need to be cured. As a result, these pathetic guys might keep thinking that they are nasty or unhealthy, but can find no way to get rid of this severe “disease”.

Belonging to minor sexual orientation groups, makes it difficult to keep an intimate relationship with family or friends. Due to the fear of denial and rejection, it is very hard to share one’s real desires or love stories with others. These intimidated guys would rather keep quiet or live far away from their family to avoid divulging their “unforgivable” secrets. Therefore, they often seem aloof, cryptic, and lonely.

The law is also sometimes unfair to those who belong to minor sexual orientation groups. For example, the result of gay couples not being able to get married is a deficiency of marriage protection and benefits. They can not choose a more economical way of paying their income tax. Moreover, they don’t have the right to inherit property if their “spouse” passes away. Because of the unfair and insecure law definition, they may need to train themselves to be strong to endure such unequal treatment.

Isn’t equal treatment a basic human right? If so, how can we treat the sexual orientation minorities in an unfair way? Are people with a different sexual preference damaging or harmful? If not, how can we think of them as terrible criminals or push them in the “right” direction? Sexual discrimination can only direct them into a much worse path. If we try to judge them objectively and treat them equally, we will see “morbid” turn into “usual”, and “queer” become “normal”; nothing will be weird eventually.
