English Writing--My Best Friend
J.C., whom I have known more than eight years, is my best friend. In fact, she is more like a family member to me because we have been roommates and colleagues for a very long time. Until now, I have spent even more time getting together with her than with my family; she is another sister to me.
J.C. and I met each other in an apartment where we shared two bedrooms and one bathroom. My first impression of J.C. was a quiet and shy girl; therefore, I was afraid that she might be difficult to get along with. However, I was surprised that she was polite and easygoing; hence I felt comfortable living with her. Moreover, at that time, because she was a graduate student with more flexible hours than I, she often voluntarily took my turn doing some menial chores such as throwing out the trash, sweeping floors and cleaning the bathroom; I was also deeply touched by her kindness and graciousness.
Several years later, I was hired by a company in which J.C. had been working for a while. Since I was new, she was enthusiastic about helping me to get acquainted with the working environment and introduced me to many nice colleagues. It made me feel that I was not working in a rigid company, but with a good-friend family. When we had chances to work on the same projects, I also found that she was an excellent partner. She was so smart and patient that we always completed our tasks successfully and efficiently.
Some people said that J.C. and I looked alike; they could not even distinguish us at first. Actually, we had many personality differences. For example, I loved on-line shopping for its incredible convenience, while J.C. preferred shopping in a real store to avoid potential risks. Another example was that I was more instinct-oriented; on the other hand, J.C. only trusted a time-consuming plan. Although sometimes we had differences of opinions, we always listened to each other and came to a final agreement.
There is a paradox saying “A good friend is like a mirror; s/he helps you to recognize yourself.” I’m a lucky girl to have gotten such a good friend already. J.C. is a best friend who supports me when I lose my confidence and warns me when I think too highly of myself. She deserves my respect and trust. I will cherish our friendship forever.
