Final Thesis concept is decided
In today's preproduction class, Scott approved my concept of the final thesis. Joyfully, I can start to carry out the next step--Character Design.
As result of my 3D Modelling major, I have to focus on character design and modelling techniques. Thus, the story is less important.
My story is very simple. The topic is culture difference:
Western Death and Chinese Death are fighting to each other because of a ghost who has mixed-blood. Afterwards, their bosses both know this thorny problem, and they are very angry about that. Finally, the war is just beginnig.
I have four main characters to model digitally. Additionally, they will be designed in fantacy or si-fi style. Honestly, I am not familiar with these fantacy and si-fi fields. From now on, I have to do a bunch of reserch and keep scketch as usual as possible. GO! GO! GO!

FRANK FRAZETTA & Sebastian Kruger
前置作業課(Preproduction)的目的是教3D研究生如何籌備自己的畢業論文, 提供正確的前製作業步驟和激發明確的創作概念。
Scott老師指示3D Modeller不但要在作品集裡展現建模的技術外, 選擇的主題和人物要獨特且有風格, 才會脫引而出; 換句話說, 就是寫實派加風格派; 當然建的模型要越寫實又精細越"讚", 但技術人人都會用(尤其是團結的韓國人), 概念跟自己的特色才是無價的。
所以, 創意的idea 需要自己的耕耘(不斷練習研究, 腦力激盪, 隨身筆記) ; 另外扎實的美術基礎, 加上不間斷的scketch素描, 才能激發個人風格, 也才知道如何讓自己的作品更美更有設計感(審美觀的差異)。
Scott提供給Modeller幾位知名的插畫家做參考, 如奇幻藝術的先驅FRANK FRAZETTA、 諷刺肖像畫的佼佼者Sebastian Kruger等等, FRAZETTA屬於寫實融合奇幻想像, 所以Scott建議在我們人物的背景故事裡, 擷取一個最讓人印像深刻的畫面, 包含主要的人物和背景, 以畫面闡述出主題和風格。
Sebastian Kruger畫了許多名人的諷刺肖像, 誇張的比例畫法會讓作品非常的有特色, 而且寫實的上色法和大家熟悉的名人肖像, 讓觀者相信並產生慧心一笑; 所以說, 改變舊有形式, 能產生創新的樣貌。
