就讓鳥叫女歌手的歌聲盡情解放吧！

視Minnie Riperton為偶像的Deniece Williams
在歌唱技巧上多少有點學習Minnie的味道
她最紅的歌曲應該是1978年的Too Much, Too Little, Too Late
這首和Johnny Mathis對唱曲囊括流行，黑音和成人三個榜冠軍
至於現在比較被為人所熟知的也是和Johnny Mathis對唱的作品
就是被Mary J. Blige和Chante Moore相繼翻唱的You're All I Need To Get By

這次要介紹的是她在1977年首張專輯This Is Niecy（R&B#3）中
推出的首支單曲Free（R&B#2，流行#25）
從這首歌當中其實就可以聽出很重Minnie Riperton的味道
尤其是中後段的飆高音，根本是為Minnie量身訂做的吧


不清楚這首歌有多少翻唱版本
因為歌名太「菜市場」，所以也有點難查
我手邊有另外三個翻唱版本（當然還有其他爵士演奏版），都相當出色

首先是我最愛Smooth Jazz男歌手Will Downing
他在1988年的首張同名專輯中同樣是拿Free（R&B#48）當首波主打
Will的版本其實很妙，因為很難想像男歌手也能唱這種鳥叫歌
不過說實話，Will真的唱的很棒！很有他自己的味道
我最喜歡他在後半段的即向演唱部份
是我覺得所有版本中最棒的！


接著很妙的是，Debelah Morgan在1994年的首張專輯Debelah
再度相中Free（R&B#96）當作首波主打
（看來很多歌手都喜歡用Free當作出道首波主打）
Debelah的版本個人比較不喜歡，節奏感較重
聽的出來想要有現代味一點，不過卻失去原曲的美感
不過Debelah在一開始的時候立即秀了一段高音
整首歌當中Debelah有耍了不少高音的花腔
大概是想讓聽眾認識這位新進歌手能有多大能耐吧


最後則是我覺得這首歌的最佳版本
當然就是Chante Moore翻唱的版本
（我承認我私心作祟，呵呵）
收錄在1994年的A Love Supreme專輯中
Chante的版本基本上是最忠於原味，不過比較特別的是
Chante將Free和Lionel Richie的Sail On唱成組曲
這首Free / Sail On是A Love Supreme中的最後一波主打單曲
因此在美國並沒有商業發行單曲
在美國只有主打舞曲播放榜，拿下第11名
不過意外的是這首歌竟然有在英國發行單曲（UK#69）
印象中在英國舞曲榜應該也有Top10（純靠印象，實情不可考）
