所以是這樣的。大家好，我是羅思虎吉，現在是外文館的文學PM阿，請大家多多指教。外文館從2006年7月成立至今大概一年半有了，一直是默默賣書的狀態...到現在還是啦。但在這一年半的時間裡也有愈來愈多的讀外文書的朋友來支持我們，所以其實努力的同時也並不孤單！

外文開館到現在還沒辦過什麼沒有讀書會活動，希望這次可以跟大家一起讀的盡興一點。所以我來啦！這本沙林傑的小說又經典又好讀又短，所以是我們的首選。

Week 1是何時呢？就是四月第一週啦，我也慢慢開始讀第一章了。我也是許多年前先讀了中文版，最近拿來一翻，才發線其實The Catcher in the Rye其實不難讀，而且愈讀愈有青春的感覺，哈！算是意外的收穫吧。

OKOK，大家一起來吧。先這樣。我來暖個場了！

這是一個青春男孩的故事，回想以前國高中男同學講話的樣子，得帶髒話，有一種不知愁之味的灑脫。

D.B.自費出了一本故事集，不過沒人讀過。到好萊塢工作以後賺了不少錢，買一台Jaguar，Holden說，D.B.是賣淫去了(p2. Now he’s out in Hollywood, D.B., being a prostitute.)。D.B.把自己的夢想暫時放在一邊，賣時間、賣自己的肉體的存在、也賣自己的靈魂；也許我是，只是目前還沒被完全打擊到。

Pencey Prep把Holden趕出來，而Holden描述這個學校還真有一種跨時代的感覺，跟我們現在看到把招生廣告放在公車外體上面在市區跑來跑去的情景無異，最光明有前景的青春臉龐，不過進了學校才發覺受騙了，”Strictly for the Birds”.

他喜歡的女孩子也不是什麼校花的典型，主要是因為她不會動不動就把她爸是校長的事情拿出來說嘴。他也不喜歡跟其他同學攪和在一起，帶著憤怒，不被了解的心情，但觀察很細微，什麼合理或不合理的事情都看在他眼底，可笑或不可笑的，雖然他找的歷史老師超老又耳背，上課也講了什麼不可信的埃及史，隨時好像都要睡著，但他當時是個好孩子也是耐心聽長輩講話。常常有埋怨，充滿矛盾，但仍是個人阿。

Sounds like a pretty nice book. I'm reading it right now, but haven't finished it yet. I'll write down more comments after I fininshed. :)

對了，主角Holden Caulfield的名字跟David Copperfield也好像阿。故事一開始就提到David Copperfield我沒讀過狄更斯的David Copperfield，我大概查了一下他故事大綱，主角也是個少年，只不過時間拉得更長了，捕手是一個四十八小時內發生的故事，而狄更斯的是到好幾年，結婚生子去了。閑聊一下。:p

這本書是國外大學生幾乎必讀的書目 身為外文系學生 不免俗的 我也在去年還是前年的暑假把這本書讀完
大概是在自己的成長階段 我並不怎麼叛逆 所以故事主角滿嘴髒話的說話方式 除了讓我覺得用字遣詞也真的太簡單以外 有些難引起共鳴

The book, the catcher in the rye, is my fourth English novel.It is a very good novel. After reading the book, it causes a tremendous change in my mind.There are other novels I would recommend to book-lovers.The Kite Runner and the shadow of wind are the fiction which can produce greatly haunting after you finish it.

Hi! :) It's me again. I finished reading this book several days ago, but i don't think i really understood what the author was trying to express. I mean, at the end of the story, why did Holden decided to go back home? Was it because of his sister? And the poem that was in the story: "If a body meet a body coming through the rye."
What does it suppose to mean ?
P.S. Can anyone please give me some clue? Thanks :)

i don't know if i really "like" the book or not. But i can feel the anxiety and senibility of Holden even i never have the experience.

What interesting is comments from Rachel and Candy,"I don't get what the author want to tell us." But it probably is that Catcher has a too different background from us (gender, maybe/), from our society, from our education system?

Let me guess. So if we are all straight A students here to discuss the book, and then it would be really difficult to follow the story.

I read this book as a teenager and it relates very well to my own feelings (if not experiences) at that time. This is what becoming an adult is about: confusion, pain, occasionally thrilling experiences, loneliness...

The Catcher catching the bodies before they fall over a cliff is an image about someone preventing the kids from becoming adults. Holden idealizes the childhood and finds adults evil and "phony".

I think it is true from his perspective but this is how we humans are and how the world runs. It might be worth to keep some childhood idealism even into old age and try to make the world a better place - a place where love is more important than money, force, sexual domination, alcohol and the like.

Maybe the cultural context of the book is quite "Western" - I am from Europe and can relate to Holden's background. However, I have very close Japanese friends and the troubles of adolescense seem to be the same in all cultures, differing in some respects maybe yet a passage we all have to go through.

Read this book also for its language. It helped me to talk to native English speakers much better even some of the slang is a bit outdated. It is beautiful, straight from the heart.

我是最近才閱讀這本書的、雖然和主角的年紀已經有一段距離了,

但我還是不得不承認這是一部很討喜的小說.故事流暢,對親情

的部份描述得很細膩,結局也收得漂亮. 就題材方面雖然

沒有什麼別出心裁的創意、但作者創造了非常獨特性的敘事口吻,

除了讓主人翁的個性、及周邊的人物鮮活起來之外、也替當時

"失落的一代"的年輕人作下完美的註腳.即使過了50年後還是能

感受到那份悸動.將之稱為經典一點也不為過.

The first time I read this book was during my high school days. I’ve come back to it ever since and sort of sought shelter in it especially when I have bad feelings about myself for not being able to apply myself like I’m supposed to at my age. I’ve heard many people saying that this is a book about the “troubles” an adolescent would encounter in growing up. If so, I guess that deep down I’ve never really grown out of them. The book is timeless for me in the sense that it has never failed to speak to my heart up till now.

Aside from that, there are so many depictions in this novel that I love to go over and over again just to feel Holden’s tenderness (under his apparent cynicism)for what happens and the people around him. Like the story about Allie’s(Holden’s brother) baseball mitt. Like how Holden wonders where the Central Park ducks go in winter. Not to mention the vivid portrait of Phoebe(Holden’s little sister)—believe me, you just can’t take your eyes off of this kid when reading this part.
