A Political Animal

It’s the first day of 2008, but for me, 2007 is still working because the legislature election will be done at 1/12. That’s the first time I join a team for a running as an important election secretary. We are running at “Big Fonshan”(大鳳山), Kauhsiung County(高雄縣). It’s also the first time I run in country Taiwan.

Country Taiwan is never a beautiful place, especially in this kind of industry area. We need to face the real industrial pollution problem; people face the globalization but lose their job, and the poor financial of local government. It’s totally different logic for election strategy like media war, propaganda and so on as we used to in the city.

However, country people use their passion melt me and change my thought. Their passion is directly. If they don’t like you, they will stand up in front of you than tell you that I hate you！But if they agree you are one of his friend; they will also show the passion to you and sometimes too much. Once upon the time, I said the local Mango is delicious then I got a full big box of mango next morning. I spent a whole week to eat them. It’s the same way they show their political intention, that’s totally different the cool city.

Under the running experience, I meet a lot of people and things. Those I never met before. They show me the real Taiwan, even if sometimes it’s ugly.  

I also got my student identity card again 2007. I began my first years Ph.D. program of sociology at Tsing Hua University. Honestly, I am not a student who studying very hard anymore. That’s because I need to make some money for my life. I think that’s a big problem for all the local Ph.D. students, me too. However, having a student ID card is still good news for my life. When I am working very tired, I could find a reason to go out and have a cup of coffee with readings.

For the coming new year, I need to thanks for my boss and my professors who considerate toward me, a busy student and busy assistant. The running will be done, my boss, you will win, and I will be liberated. Then my professors will get their student again. Everything will be success for you, me and every of my friends who is reading this letter.
