這是Scholastic Literature Anthologies中的一本主題書。本書探討的主要論題為價值觀，為內容精闢的文學精選集。書中包含了short stories、essays、poetry及drama。各篇文章或詩作皆能讓讀者深思及省思。
本書中我最喜歡的一篇文章為"Twelve Things I Wish They Taught at School"。Car Sagan列舉學校最需要教導學生的十二件事：
1.Pick a difficult thing and learn it well.
2.Don't be afraid to ask "dumb" questions.
3.Listen carefully.
4.Everybody makes mistakes.
5.Baloney detection.
6.Know your planet.
7.Science and technology.
8.Nuclear War.
9.Don't spend your life watching TV.
10.Culture.
11.Politics.
12.Compassion.
