Fourth Conference of the European Association of Taiwan Studies

Call For Papers
The European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) will hold its fourth annual conference on 20-22 April 2007. The conference is co-organized by the School of Oriental and African Studies and the Center for Pacific Asia Studies (CPAS) at Stockholm University, Sweden.

Venue: Stockholm.

The organizers particularly welcome abstracts on the following themes:
1. Domestic Politics and Democracy (including panels on Political Communication and Corruption)
2. Trade, Finance and Economics
3. Taiwan in the Diplomatic International Space
4. Social Movements and Cultural Organisations
5. Taiwanese Languages, Literatures and Histories
6. Tourism and Place-making

We particularly invite submissions on the 60th commemoration of the February 28 Incident, 1947 for an interdisciplinary panel focusing on its socio-cultural and geopolitical influences.

Master and 1st year Ph.D. students enrolled in a Taiwan Studies Programme at a European university are especially encouraged to apply and their research areas will receive immediate attention by the organisers.

In addition, we will consider submissions in the following disciplinary areas:
1. Economics and Business
2. Anthropology and Religion
3. Politics, Law and International Relations
4. History and Geography
5. Cultural and Area Studies

We will announce the accepted abstracts in the first week of January 2007

Paper presenters affiliated with European institutions will be eligible for travel grants. Details will be announced.
