They cheat too.
The Chen Sui-Bian administration should not be sad about their impotent and corrupt bureaucracy. Taiwanese shouldn't be fussy about their frequently cheating civil servants because a US government official was found to have cheated too.
Michael Brown, the recently replaced FEMA chief(暫譯:聯邦緊急事件處理局局長), is accused by Time magazine of having cheated on his resume. Mr. Brown has listed some suspicious professional experiences on his vita.
First, in the FEMA and White House websites, Mr. Brown is shown as a previous“Assistant City Manager with emergency services oversight” in Oklahoma City. After investigation, Mr. Brown was found as an Assistant "to" City Manager instead. The spokesman for FEMA backed Mr. Brown up by saying that there was no such a supervisory position like "Assistant City Manager with emergency services oversight" in Oklahoma City. It is no question that Mr. Brown was an Assistant to City Manager. The spokesman regret to see that Time magazine cited erroneous information. Well, if we cannot trust the information offered by the FEMA and White House websites, what website else can we trust?
Second, Mr. Brown is shown in the legal website Findlaw.com as a previous “outstanding political science professor in Central State University.” The administration at the University said that Mr. Brown had never been a professor but just a student in the political science department. The FEMA spokesmen clarified the confusion by saying that Mr. Brown had been an assistant professor in the "law" college at the same university. The confusion was also clarified that Mr. Brown had been an outstanding senior in political science department at Central State University.
Finally, Mr. Brown claimed himself as a director of the Oklahoma Christian Home a couple years ago. Yet the authority of that facility said that Mr. Brown had not been“a person that anyone is familiar with.”
I am not sure to what extent Mr. Brown has cheated on his resume. He might have tried to exaggerate his professional experiences and convince people of his competence to undertake the chief position at FEMA. Now that we know nasty government officials are ubiquitous, Taiwanese ought to tolerate their corrupt civil service system to a larger extent. Since the Bush administration, the spoiled uncle Sam, have harbored appointed politicians like Mr. Brown and their jobs for so long, Chen Shi Bian administration would feel it okay to do the same thing. It is always the logic of Taiwanese politicians, isn't it?
