R.E.M.有一首很有名的歌曲 Fall on Me 裡面提到 Buy the Sky, and Sell the Sky...。網路上流傳這首歌是關於酸雨的。剛找了很多網路資料，這邊是這樣寫的。

主唱也是歌詞作者Michael Stipe說：這首歌本來是寫關於酸雨，但後來我重寫了這首歌(旋律與歌詞部份)，假如你聽這首歌，主旋律後面有第二軌旋律就是原本的旋律。這首歌本來有部份是關於酸雨。事實上我們大家都愛的這首"Fall on Me"不是關於酸雨，是一首公眾壓迫歌曲(a general opression song)，是關於那些外頭有很多原因使得我們需要一首歌說著："別打擊我".....然後歌詞有提到一點伽利略在比薩斜塔做的自由落體實驗....

這首歌廣被包括我在內的R.E.M.樂迷喜愛，不是因為這首歌的反動意識，而是因為這首歌真是他媽的好聽。類似民謠的曲式開始是喃喃啐唸，然後音階愈爬愈高，到 Fall on me 的時候再掉下來，還真的呼應了Stipe老大強調的終究都會掉下來的自由落體實驗。

Michael Stipe的歌詞基本上不要太探究，因為可能連他自己都說不清楚每個字詞的用意，這首歌他也說了有改過有提到有關於....反正原本跟酸雨有關但最後作者把它當作是首反映被壓迫的作品。

Fall on Me 這首歌是在1986年推出的。當時美國最熱門的環境議題是酸雨與空氣污染。美國政府想要用空氣污染物的額度交易，來遏止酸雨與空氣污染。在幾經商議後，1990年美國推出「空氣清淨法」新版本，正式把空污排放交易制度納入，這個制度是為了防制酸雨。酸雨的主要肇因是空氣中的二氧化硫，主要是因為煤炭發電，而鋼鐵業就是耗能最大的產業之一。

所以 fall on me的意思就是酸雨淋在身上的意思。
Feathers hit the ground是指伽利略在比薩斜塔上丟羽毛下來也跟其他重物一樣會同時到達地面。看Stipe曾說的話中，好像誤以為伽利略當時有丟羽毛。
Bargain buildings(買賣協商建地/建物), weights and pulleys(重物與滑輪) 用疊辭造成聲韻，象徵買賣之間的拉鋸，歌迷的解釋是指環境談判之間的不當妥協....
lift your arms up to the sky, and ask the sky and ask the sky
這兩句是指投降、向天吶喊，還是振作時奮力的樣貌？
難怪Michael Stipe說這是首反應壓迫的歌曲。


現在聽這首歌，則會想到溫室氣體的排放交易。
一樣是買空賣空的販賣天空行為。
或許等碳交易制度玩爛了，大家都要舉起雙手說，我敗給你了。
