關於本輯／鋼琴家徹卡斯基Shura Cherkassky：
1909年生於敖得薩，1995年逝於倫敦，身為名師霍夫曼（Josef Hofmann）的天才學生，徹卡斯基成名甚早，卻甚少留下錄音。一直到了七十歲之後才再度受到樂壇注意，甚至八十歲以後更是大出風頭，連連獲獎。事實上徹卡斯基從未離開演奏舞台，1980年代在Nimbus、1990年代在Decca都留下令人印象深刻的錄音。他的演奏曲目廣泛，即興而充滿詩意的風格，可謂浪漫派後期最後一位鋼琴大師。這場錄於徹卡斯基逝世前兩年（1993）的現場音樂會，在直率中有著優雅的琴韻，令人懷念不已。

關於本輯／佛朗明哥吉他演奏家帕可‧佩納Paco Pena：
1942年生於西班牙哥多華的安達魯西亞，帕可‧佩納從六歲開始就隨哥哥學吉他，十二歲首度登台，1960年代晚期移居倫敦，此後便以精湛的技巧和音樂性征服英倫聽眾，不僅唱片銷售奇佳，演奏會更是座無虛席。此外，他還經常出現在電視頻道，其知名度之高以一個吉他演奏家來說實在少見。1981年他在家鄉哥多華成立「帕可‧佩納佛朗明哥中心」，並舉辦第一屆吉他音樂節，吸引了超過三十個國家的傑出音樂家參與盛會，造成吉他界一陣旋風。1985年受聘為鹿特丹音樂院世界首位佛朗明哥吉他教授，更加確立了他的地位。帕可曾五度榮獲「吉他樂手雜誌」選為年度最佳佛朗明哥吉他手。此外，他還贏得令吉他演奏家垂涎的「拉蒙．蒙托亞大獎」。從1970年開始，帕可便成立「佛朗明哥舞團Paco Pena Flamenco Dance Company」，和他親手挑選的舞者、歌手以及吉他演奏家，將佛朗明哥藝術正式帶進倫敦的音樂劇場領域，並固定在各大音樂廳表演。本輯是2006年十二月的音樂會，帕可‧佩納以手中的一把吉他述說著佛朗明哥的故事，在炫技處，更是令人血脈賁張，精采至極。

波蘭鋼琴大師霍佐夫斯基1892年生於前蘇聯的烏克蘭，師承名師雷協替茲基（Theodor Leschetizky）。九歲以神童姿態於維也納登台，十一歲即赴美洲旅行演奏，1906年更首次在卡內基音樂廳演奏。1940年為躲避納粹而移居美國，1948年成為美國公民，隨後在寇第斯音樂院任教，直到1993年逝世，期間如培萊亞、彼得‧塞爾金以及伊斯托敏等鋼琴家，都曾受其指導。霍佐夫斯基早期曾是大提琴泰斗卡薩爾斯的二重奏夥伴，其一生亦多以伴奏身份活躍。他和小提琴大師西格提所錄製的莫札特奏鳴曲錄音（Vanguard ATM-1885），更是歷史上重要名盤之一。霍佐夫斯基的獨奏錄音則是在1987年他以九十五歲高齡舉行演奏會，引起音樂界的高度重視才開始。本輯這場錄於大師九十九高齡的音樂會，他不慍不火的琴韻溫馨而感人，霍佐夫斯基的樂壇傳奇可以說是空前絕後。
