　　在David Byrne以他特殊的知能感性，發作出超乎常人的潛在思想力量，完成一張震驚83年樂壇的”Speaking in Tongues”後，經過一年半，Talking Heads的第六張專輯”Stop Making Sense”於84年10月推出。這張演唱會錄音專輯是由Talking Heads主演的同名紀錄片的配樂。這場表演是錄製於83年12月好萊塢的Pantages劇院演唱會。在美國發行的第一版唱片中，附有一份10頁的內容說明。在這份小冊裡，印有許多劇照（舞台攝影），照片與照片間的空白部分有David Byrne隨筆記敘的短文，分成10個部分：給表演者的讚賞、與別人生活、地球上的生命、有關家庭…、太空人、金錢、世界旅行、未來、工作、成長等標題。另外還有電影說明、漫畫與小評論等等的內容，這些都是David Byrne個人的哲學觀。

　　自80年的問題大作”Remain in Light”推出後，Talking Heads的創作歷經了兩年半空白的時間，1983年春天，他們發表了一張成熟度已臻極限的名作”Speaking in Tongues”。這一張”Speaking in Tongues”事實上是”Remain in Light”的實驗結晶；此兩張專輯採取相同的錄音方式。仍舊由四位團員完成基礎母帶，再由David以破局的方式，搭上客串音樂工作者的修飾而完成的一張專輯。

　　“Remain in Light”是一張舉世注目的問題作品，問題在哪呢？在1980年10月推出的這張純粹實驗的作品中，幾乎一切不依常規的做法，都會變成問題的所在。

　　“Fear of Music”發表於1979年夏天。Talking Heads在Brian Eno的繼續參予，儼然像是一支五人樂隊。由於Eno對他們日益了解，因此在製作時，對錄音的操作更能得心應手的駕馭各種音效之處理。而在製作的順意之中，了解與信任勝於一切，因為在製作這張專輯前，Talking Heads與Brian Eno實際上已有六個月未通訊息。

　　“More Songs about Buildings and Food” 是Talking Heads於1978年夏季推出的第二張專輯。從這張專輯Talking Heads開始與Brian Eno開始合作。Eno的加入，大幅改善了Talking Heads的音樂組織；但Eno對他們的特有音色與結構分文不動，他只是將Talking Heads的音樂鋪上更多音層，而使音樂的層次更加寬廣。接著他教他們如何使用獨特的音色來修飾音樂。因而這張專輯很顯著的要比”77”在音樂本身的內容上來得豐富得多了，並在整體結構上顯然趨於統一。

　　1975年6月Talking Heads披著“紐約知性派音樂集團”的大袈裟，標榜著知識分子之現代福音的口號，首度出現在大眾面前。至今已在變換無窮的音樂圈中，已經歷了三十個年頭的歲月。雖然今天他們早已解散，但其成員，尤其是David Byrne宛如常青樹一般，持續活躍在當代流行樂壇。他們的存在價值已被肯定，並早已確定為“時代的製造者‘。今天他們個自仍竭盡其力的去發掘知性音樂之藝術的極端可能性。這些音樂模式成立在黑人放克（Funk）、古典極限主義與非洲節奏的基架上，開始一連串的冒險活動。反顧他們成功的原因，是在於每張專輯，Talking Head都能貫徹他們大膽的新觀念之試驗，並在嶄新的肉感韻律與知性的根基間，奇妙的保持絕對的均衡勢力。

　　從未聽過如此哀傷、憂鬱的歌聲與表情那麼自然、感人地呈現在聽眾面前。當我聽到那種哀嚎、淒涼的歌聲時，便聯想起吉普賽人四處為家的漂泊、孤寂。Roy Harper淒切的歌聲深深地吸引著無數樂迷們的心。

什麼樣的音樂讓我的貓聽了也瘋狂？搖滾？不可能。電子？也不可能。工業？好像也不會。原來是Pierre Schaeffer這位老兄錄製的一首叫cats kittens，裡面全是一堆小貓北鼻在亂叫，害得佛瑞德緊張兮兮，也害得小茱茱在電腦桌下亂找，以為她搞丟了她的小孩。很好奇我當初沒事幹麼買了Pierre Schaeffer跟Pierre Henry老兄一些作品集，想想我平時拍片時也能錄這樣的東西，效果應該比兩位老兄還好，甚至還能去作DTS環場音效咧！

自60年代初以來就很明顯的事實，即世界上越來越多的地區開始進入了一個資訊社會，軍事和經濟不再是僅有的兩種重要權力形式，而是對資訊的控制和掌握才是當今最重要的權力形式。這種理論是基於一個不無道理的假設，即如果大多數人不相信（或不知道）某種可能性的存在，那麽他們顯然不能自由地選擇這種可能性。雖然這種結論對於後現代理論家和政治理論家來說司空見慣，但對於一個音樂工作者來說則是少有的深刻。正如Throbbing Gristle的核心人物Genesis P-Orridge（原名Neil Megson）說過的：「我們的理念是：治療和重新整合人格。引發精神爆炸來去除控制......交換以及解放資訊......我們需要尋找能夠打破定勢思維、盲目接受、以及令我們一成不變的行爲如此容易受到控制的那種期望的手段。」

  A night of december so dark and cold

I walked a path ages old

The moon amongst the clouds revealed

lightning valleys, forest and field

Embraced by silence I wandered the moor
