另類世界音樂(Alternative World Music)之天籟 - Azam Ali

Azam Ali成名於加州的雙人組樂團Vas,根據國外的樂評,Vas應該是繼Dead Can Dance之後,銷售最佳的樂團之一,姑且不論是否為唱片工業下商業機制的運作,她(他)們的作品的確是可圈可點。
Vas在拉丁文中為vessel之意,由Azam Ali與加州籍的打擊樂手Greg Ellis所組成的,他們的樂風超越了文化與地理的疆界,主要強調古代的人聲與手鼓間的關係。自從1995年,兩位在UCLA的Master Musicians of Jajouka音樂節相遇,在一場偶然的聚會中,彼此聽到了各自的演奏,立即有了共同的願景。於是隔天他們即共同開始創作,而Vas就這樣成立了。
創作跨越十年以上,包含八張協力專輯與兩張個人專輯的事業裡,Azam Ali在今天世界音樂領域中樹立了驚人的創作力、具多才多藝的天才女歌手,在音樂上的奉獻而不畏懼文化間的特異性,雖然她不情願的被歸類於某種音樂表現形式,但獲得了廣大同儕與樂評間的尊重與喝采。由她全部的創作理念觀點,很難去否定Azam是今天全球最優秀的作曲者與歌手。June 5,2007

文明開化的織舞音樂…..6
在David Byrne以他特殊的知能感性,發作出超乎常人的潛在思想力量,完成一張震驚83年樂壇的”Speaking in Tongues”後,經過一年半,Talking Heads的第六張專輯”Stop Making Sense”於84年10月推出。這張演唱會錄音專輯是由Talking Heads主演的同名紀錄片的配樂。這場表演是錄製於83年12月好萊塢的Pantages劇院演唱會。在美國發行的第一版唱片中,附有一份10頁的內容說明。在這份小冊裡,印有許多劇照(舞台攝影),照片與照片間的空白部分有David Byrne隨筆記敘的短文,分成10個部分:給表演者的讚賞、與別人生活、地球上的生命、有關家庭…、太空人、金錢、世界旅行、未來、工作、成長等標題。另外還有電影說明、漫畫與小評論等等的內容,這些都是David Byrne個人的哲學觀。

自80年的問題大作”Remain in Light”推出後,Talking Heads的創作歷經了兩年半空白的時間,1983年春天,他們發表了一張成熟度已臻極限的名作”Speaking in Tongues”。這一張”Speaking in Tongues”事實上是”Remain in Light”的實驗結晶;此兩張專輯採取相同的錄音方式。仍舊由四位團員完成基礎母帶,再由David以破局的方式,搭上客串音樂工作者的修飾而完成的一張專輯。
