“The future is unwritten!”

The phrase, written by rock band “The Clash”, tells why this program becomes such attractive to me. I deeply conceive YES is the assembly of
those who won’t let the world surrender to the rule used to be. Three are three most valuable characteristics. First of all, YES offers the opportunity to discuss
opinions about the changing world with youth has absolute ardor and true believe from different regions and culture. Secondary, I can learn a lot from the outstanding scholars, even challenge with them. The most important reason is to put myself in such surrounding and to arouse me to re-establish the goal of life.

But how to make you believe I am the ideal person for the program? It can be analyzed from the following three aspects, “Race identity, professional, and personal.” As a Chinese lived in Taiwan, where is list the second worst in the ESI2005. During transformation procedure from developing into developed, it left lots of environmental burden and social conflicts. The positive experience, like the communities rebuild from the nature disaster ,could be the references for other nations, especially China with 1.3 billion citizens. In the meantime, there are still lots of problems to be overcome, including the civil awareness, the balance between economic growth, environment protection, and society equity. Those are what we can learn from the advanced European countries.

In the professional level, I am from the discipline that people thought very helpful for environment. However, it causes much damage than good indeed. In Taiwan, environmental engineering gets criticism from the environmentalist and the industrialist. The former refers that, we as accomplice to destroy the environment; the later refers that we as obstacle of economic. Lacking of the systematic thinking about the sustainability might be the main defect to be amended. The “multi” and “diversity” are the bases of systematic thinking, and also the important elements of YES.

Finally, I should be honest to confess that I am not the fittest person of YES. If the judgment was made according the things that I had accomplished. The main attribute to sustainability is to hold a camp for high school students and the “That where we live ”exhibition in college. But as you know, Che Guevara devoted himself into revolution because the journey he had taken in the age of twenty-four. Maybe, the YES is my journey before revolution.
